Man robbed
A man from Dudley was robbed Wednesday night of more than $6,000 in jewelry and other property by two armed black men in a yard in the 400 block of Rudolph Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Jeremy Ramel Alston told officers that the suspects displayed a handgun at about 9:48 p.m., stole the property and fled toward Royall Avenue.
The stolen property included a man's and a woman's diamond wedding rings, a diamond engagement ring, a gold ring with diamonds, a gold necklace with a gold cross charm, a gold-tone ring, a cell phone, two sets of dog tags and a leather wallet. The property was valued at $6,120.
One robber was described as being about 20 years old, 6-feet-1 and 215 pounds with black hair and a heavy build. He wore a dark hat and black short-sleeved shirt. The other suspect was described as 5-feet-9 and 140 pounds with a small build. He wore a brown hat and a white T-shirt.
5 hurt in wrecks
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $43,200 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 4:41 p.m. Wednesday at North James and West Vine streets, Goldsboro police said. Daniel DeLeon Ramirez, 38, of Echo Drive, LaGrange, and Cikeitha Nicole Fowler, 26, of Clarkton were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ramirez was charged with a stop-sign violation and no operator's license. Damages were put at $3,500. The report said the eastbound company minivan that Ramirez was driving had collided with Ms. Fowler's southbound car.
*A driver was injured and the pickup truck that he was driving was destroyed in a wreck at 9 a.m. Saturday on N.C. 111 near Sheridan Forest Road, the Highway Patrol said. Gregory Leon White, 42, of LaGrange Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed and no operator's license. The pickup was valued at $5,000. The report said the pickup was towing another car and the towed auto swerved back and forth, causing White to lose control of the pickup. The pickup skidded sideways and overturned, and the towed vehicle separated and stopped on the shoulder, the report said.
*Damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-car collision at 9:54 a.m. March 23 at N.C. 111 and Daw Pate Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Wanda B. Carter, 44, of Forehand Road, Pikeville, was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop-sign after her car had collided with a southbound auto driven by Pamela Elizabeth Meyer, 38, of Farm Club Road.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $10,800 in a one-car wreck at 8:30 a.m. March 22 on Indian Springs Road near Camp Jubilee Road, the Highway Patrol said. Amanda Crystal Kaiser, 19, of Scott Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding the posted speed limit.
*Damages were set at $5,500 in a two-vehicle, rear-end collision at 7:35 a.m. March 22 at Buck Swamp and Salem Church roads, the Highway Patrol said.Jeremy Scott Mullen, 25, of Mossburg Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
*A driver was injured in a one-car crash at 7:05 p.m. March 21 on Big Daddy's Road near Lancaster Road, the Highway Patrol said. Kristina Michelle Ballance, 28, of Chinquapin Drive, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to maintain lane control. Damage was set at $1,200.
*Damages were estimated at $6,200 in a two-vehicle crash at 10:23 a.m. March 21 at U.S. 117 and N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. The report said a tractor-trailer truck had merged from the left turn lane into the left southbound lane, forcing a car to swerve to the right to avoid a collision and the car then collided with a pickup truck in the right lane. The tractor-trailer driver fled. The other drivers, Sadiaa Nakisha Broadhurst, 27, of Rollingwood Drive, Dudley, and Kennon Charles Weeks, 55, of Warsaw Street, Mount Olive, were not charged.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A total of $938.14 and a checkbook were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday from Jonesboro Pentecostal Holiness Church at 1049 Country Club Road, deputies said. The thief had knocked out an office window to get inside and then pried open a filing cabinet to get the property, the report said.
*A black and silver 2001 Hartford motorcycle was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 400 block of Broadhurst Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, David Wayne Crouse, said the bike was worth $2,000.
*Gunshots before dawn today damaged a mobile home in the 100 block of Timothy Street near Dudley, deputies said. The shots passed through a door, exterior and interior walls and underpinning, narrowly missing a resident. Damage was estimated at $210.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A thief threw a brick through a window at Cap's at 716-A E. Ash St. and stole three coats, three pairs of sweatpants and five shirts, police said. The clothes was valued at $365. Damage was set at $600.
*Two laptop computers, video-game equipment, a DVD player and a combination DVD-VCR player were stolen Wednesday after a door was forced open at a home in the 1600 block of Humphrey Street, police said. The resident, Dwayne Schermer, estimated the value of the stolen property at $3,500.
*A diamond ring, a garnet ring, a tiger's eye ring, 12 other rings and a watch were stolen between Monday and Wednesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 1000 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The resident, David Powell, estimated the stolen property's value at $2,830 and damage at $100.
Sex charge
A 44-year-old man has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with failure to register as a convicted sex offender.
John Allen Menly of Kearney Lane had been released from a state prison and did not file his address with the Sheriff's Office as required by law, Detective Richard Winders said. Menly was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Arson charge
A 29-year-old Goldsboro woman has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felonious second-degree arson.
Lendora Hendricks of Astor Court was arrested after an investigation of a suspicious fire at a home on Red Hill Road, Detective Robert Golimowski said. Ms. Hendricks was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Eureka and Faro volunteer firefighters and Wayne County Emergency Service officials assisted in the investigation.
Bomb threat
Two students at Mount Olive Middle School were disciplined after a bomb threat Tuesday forced a temporary evacuation of the school. Wayne County Public School officials said the school was searched and no explosives were found.
