School Street student wins art contest for 'Relay for Life'

A School Street Elementary School student has won the Relay for Life "Kids Walk" art contest.
Third grader Tyesha Campbell will have her design printed on t-shirts that will be worn by "Kids Walk" participants.
Miss Campbell's drawing has five young children standing together with the "Kids Walk" logo written above them along with the message, "Little Feet with Big Hearts: Kids Making a Difference in the Fight Against Cancer". All "Kids Walk" participants who enter by April 6 will receive a t-shirt with the drawing on it.
"Kids Walk" will take place on May 20 from 9-10 a.m. during the regular Relay for Life event being held at Wayne Community College. Children up to fifth grade can walk the track and also enjoy special activities.
This will be the first year for the "Kids Walk" in Wayne County. Organizers say it will be a fun way for young people to get involved in Relay for Life. It also celebrates youth cancer survivors and recognizes the youngest fundraiser and youth fundraising teams.
Many schools in Wayne County participate in the annual event, raising thousands of dollars for cancer research.
Schools' superintendent Dr. Steven Taylor said the "Kids Walk" is "just one more exciting way for our schools to come together and help create awareness about the disease and help raise money for a cure."
