Man charged
with drug offenses
A 32-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad during a traffic stop on New Hope Road and charged with multiple felony drug offenses in Wayne and Greene counties.
Willie Spencer Best of Hood Swamp Road was charged by Wayne County authorities with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana and misdemeanor possession of lottery tickets.
Best was charged by Greene County authorities with two felony counts each of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, sale of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine.
Best was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 secured bond. An additional secured bond of $100,000 was set on the Greene County charges.
Driver hurt
A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $44,200 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 1:50 p.m. Monday on East Ash Street near North Jefferson Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Jennifer Turner, 19, of North Hillcrest Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Turner was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other motorist was identified as Johanna Collazos, 27, of Cashwell Drive. Damages were set at $4,200.
*Damage was put at $5,000 in a one-car wreck at 12:56 a.m. Sunday on Hooks Road near Nahunta Road, the Highway Patrol said. The report said the northbound car had careened out of control, run off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned, and the driver had fled. The car was registered to Carol Simpson of Holland Hills Drive, the report said.
*Damages were estimated at $18,000 in a two-truck collision at 11:37 a.m. Friday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound trucker, Ronald Arthur Williams, 50, of Raleigh, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said the tractor-trailer truck that Williams was driving for Advantage Tank Lines of Canton, Ohio, had collided with a westbound tractor-trailer truck that was operated by Glenn Russell Howell, 50, of Lumberton.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*About $3,415 worth of property, including a 50-inch television and six fishing rods and reels, was stolen between Monday and Tuesday from a home in the 200 block of Sanderson Road, deputies said. The thief had pried open a door to get inside, the report said. The resident, Richard Stanley Jones Jr., also reported the theft of video-game equipment, a DVD player, a video cassette recorder, a tool box, a saw and a drop cord.
*Gunshots on Monday night damaged a window and interior walls at a home in the 4400 block of U.S. 13 North, deputies said. The resident, James Alan Smith, estimated damages at $700.
*Water was left running between Sunday and Monday at a rental mobile home in the 100 block of Agona Place, deputies said. The owner, John Herman Tucker, estimated damage to the floor at $4,625.
*A computer keyboard and monitor and a 32-inch television were stolen between Friday and Monday from Eastern Wayne Elementary School at 1271 E. New Hope Road, deputies said. The property was valued at $1,900. No sign of forced entry was reported.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment was stolen between Friday and Monday after a door had been forced open at a home in the 400 block of East Beech Street, police said. The resident, V. Spingett, put a $240 value on the stolen property.
*A four-door, black 1995 Chevrolet Caprice was stolen between Saturday night and Monday from a repair shop at 3300 U.S. 70 East, police said. The owner, Kristopher Douglas Battle of East Pine Street, told police that he had left the key in a drop box. The manager said the key was missing when he opened the shop on Monday. The car was valued at $7,000.
Building damaged
An outbuilding was damaged heavily and several junked cars were destroyed Sunday in a fire at 463 Potts Road, a fire official said Monday.
Dudley Fire Chief Chester Foss said a neighbor had burned trash Saturday and a smoldering ember may have caused the fire.
Damage was estimated at $3,500 to the building and $500 to the cars. The building, owned by Red Wise, was valued at $4,500. The contents were valued at about $250.
Twelve Dudley firefighters answered the morning call with four trucks. Foss said Arrington assisted with about seven volunteers and three trucks and Mar Mac brought about seven firefighters and two trucks.
