Sheriff Carey Winders said his office has been getting complaints about campaign signs belonging to both parties being vandalized.

Signs are being removed or defaced in various areas of the county, he said, and it seems to happen every year.

Tampering with the signs is a Class 3 misdemeanor, said Winders, and anyone caught in the act will be charged. The signs are expensive and, in most cases, property owners have given permission for signs to be posted where they are, he added.

Winders asked that anyone who sees signs being removed or destroyed call the Wayne County Sheriff's office at 731-1481.

Callers are asked to provide as much information as possible, including descriptions of those involved, vehicle make, color and license plate numbers.
