5 people injured
in accidents
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $46,100 in eight recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 1:15 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 70 East near N.C. 111, Goldsboro police said. An eastbound driver, Thomas Andrews Bradshaw III, 16, of Bradford Place, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The report said a westbound driver, David Lee Frazier, 49, of Raleigh, had turned left and started to cross the eastbound lanes and the car that Bradshaw was driving had collided with the trailer that Frazier was towing.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-car crash at 5 p.m. Saturday at East Ash Street and North Audubon Avenue, police said. Tennillia Lisette Battle, 25, of Johnson Lane was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A following eastbound motorist, Jon Henry Burgess, 28, of Norlee Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were set at $100.
*A Goldsboro fire truck collided with a parked Wayne County car at 11:55 a.m. Friday at Walnut and South John streets, police said. The driver of fire truck, Carol Irene Taylor, 38, of Goldsboro, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damage was put at $200 to the fire truck and $300 to the car.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:09 a.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and O'Berry Center Road, the Highway Patrol said. A driver leaving O'Berry Center Road, Tracy Marie Blackmon, 29, of Kenly, was charged with a yield violation. The report said her car had collided with an eastbound pickup truck that was driven by Gregory McGee Reeves, 55, of N.C. 581 South.
*A passenger was injured and damages were put at $7,300 in a one-vehicle wreck at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday on Indian Springs Road near Broadhurst Road, the Highway Patrol said. Haley Kohnen, 13, of Mitchell Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, Mitchell Graham Kohnen, 17, of Mitchell Road, Dudley, was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said the sport utility vehicle had run off the left side, struck a power pole and rolled over into the road.
*A driver from Kenly was injured in a one-truck wreck at 1:51 p.m. March 13 at U.S. 117 and U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. Sanford Wade Murray, 43, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said the tractor-trailer truck that Murray was driving had run off the right side of U.S. 117 and overturned into a ditch. Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the big rig, registered to Waccamaw Transport Inc. of Selma.
*Two people were injured and a car was destroyed in a wreck at 12:37 p.m. March 13 on Eagle Ridge Drive near Sunrise Drive, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Austi Shimmer Joyner, 19, of Bird Dog Lane, Dudley, and her passenger, Tajmari Joyner, 13 months, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Joyner was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said the westbound car had run off the left side in a sharp curve and struck a driveway culvert. The car was valued at $3,000.
*Both vehicles were demolished in a crash at 4:25 p.m. March 13 on Arrington Bridge Road, or N.C. 581, near Casey Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. A following eastbound driver, Trenton Andrew Miller, 32, of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The report said the driver of a pickup truck towing a trailer -- Donald Ray Schaff, 18, of Charlotte -- was making a wide right turn into a driveway and Miller's pickup ran off the right side, striking a mail box and a walkway. Damages were estimated at $8,200.
Shots hit
cars, house
Two cars and a house were damaged over the weekend by gunshots, according to reports by law-enforcement officers.
Victoria Mae Suggs, 25, of Goldsboro told Goldsboro police that a gunshot struck the rear window of her car at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot at 1750 S. U.S.117. Damage was set at $100.
Ms. Suggs, who was in her car, said she had heard an argument, then four gunshots and breaking glass. About an hour earlier, police responded to an incident at the new Club Big Brothers.
Gunshots inflicted about $450 in damages to a car and a home in the 500 block of Durham Lake Road, Wayne County sheriff's deputies said.
The resident, Phillip Allen King, reported damage to two doors, interior walls, a refrigerator and a car door.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Thieves inflicted about $1,950 in damages to a storage unit on Longview Drive and stole two vinyl windows between March 8 and Friday, deputies said. Six roll-up doors, six door panels, an outside door, interior walls and a security light were damaged. The owner, George Wolfe of Goldsboro, put a $300 value on the windows.
*All six windows were smashed on a car on Longview Drive and the battery was stolen between March 8 and Saturday, deputies said. The owner, Diane Ulrich of LaGrange, estimated damages at $1,500 and said the battery was worth $50.
*A red scooter was stolen between Friday and Saturday from the 400 block of Sandhill Drive, deputies said. The owner and resident, Laurence N. Hatem, put an $1,600 value on the scooter.
Break-ins
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A DVD player, 15 DVDs, a pair of shoes, an inflatable bed and $300 were stolen Saturday after a door was damaged at a home in the 500 block of East New Hope Road, police said. The resident, Dwight Ulmer, estimated the value of the stolen property at $419, in addition to the cash, and damage at $100.
*A stereo, a speaker box and an amplifier were stolen Saturday after a car window was smashed in the Franklin Bakery parking lot on North Carolina Street, police said. The owner, Carlos Manuel Hernandez of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $900 and damage at $250.
*A laptop computer, a shotgun and four handguns were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a window and a gun case were damaged at an apartment in the 500 block of South Harding Drive, police said. The resident, Yvonne W. Parnell, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,800 and damages at $115.
Drug charge
A 40-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Sunday by Goldsboro police on North James Street and charged with a felony drug offense.
Sandra Darnell Worrell of West Oak Street was charged with possession of cocaine. She also was held on an outstanding arrest order. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,500 secured bond.
