Suspect's bond doubled

The secured bond for the man accused of shooting a Goldsboro police supervisor was increased Thursday by a judge from $500,000 to $1 million.
Bobby Lee Rawlings, 58, of 1200 E. Elm St. was charged by the State Bureau of Investigation with the attempted first-degree murder of Capt. Brady Thompson.
When Rawlings had his first court appearance, Wayne County District Court Judge Les Turner of Pink Hill doubled the defendant's bond. Turner also appointed Goldsboro lawyer Charles Gurley to represent Rawlings.
Thompson was shot in the chest Wednesday morning as he tried to serve a search warrant at Rawlings' home.
The 50-year-old Thompson, a 23-year department veteran, was saved from serious injury, and perhaps even death, because of his bulletproof vest. He was treated in the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room and released later Wednesday.
Thompson is recovering at home and expected to return to work soon.
Rawlings also was charged by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad with two felony drug offenses, a felony weapons violation and two misdemeanor drug offenses. His secured bond remained $75,000 on those charges.
A second man removed from the house, Rico Deavon Lewis, 34, of Green Street, was charged with felony and misdemeanor drug violations.
