LaGrange police
raid two homes,
charge 2 people
LA GRANGE -- LaGrange police raided two homes Tuesday and arrested three people in an ongoing investigation into drug sales.
The police executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Hadley Street and seized cocaine, a handgun and drug paraphernalia. Warrants were obtained for the resident.
Later in the day, Charles Deangelo Tolbert, 25, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two felony counts each of sale and delivery of cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine.
Tolbert was placed in the Lenoir County Jail in Kinston in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
LaGrange police Chief John Sullivan said information developed from that investigation led officers to a search of a home in the 400 block of Summit Street. Officers seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Two people were arrested and charged during the search. Sullivan said other charges were pending.
Treava Holloway, 32, was arrested for a probation violation and turned over to probation officers. Robert Johnson, 42, of Sam Lane, LaGrange, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was released from custody on a written promise.
The other people in the home face felony drug charges. One will be charged with conspiracy to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. The other will be charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of using and selling drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, Kinston police and the State Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation over several months.
Man robbed
A 23-year-old man from Princeton was assaulted and robbed Wednesday night of $81, Goldsboro police reported.
Robert Roll told officers that he got out of his car at about 7:10 p.m. at the Eckerd's Drug Store at 806 E. Ash St. The report said a black man approached Roll, pushed him against his car and grabbed the money from Roll's pocket. The suspect jumped in a black car and fled east, the report said.
The robber was described as being about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds with a medium build and short black hair.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*Gunshots on Wednesday night damaged the back windows of a van in a convenience store parking lot at 1111 Olivia Lane. The owner, Ali Hamoud Albhari, estimated damages at $800.
*A beige, four-door 1988 Oldsmobile Regency 98 was stolen between Sunday and dawn today from the 700 block of Pou Street. The owner and resident, Roland Lamar Jackson, put a $2,500 value on the car. He said a key was not needed to operate it.
Break-ins
Four homes and a car were broken into Wednesday, about $5,460 worth of property was stolen and at least $800 in damages was inflicted, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Two shotguns, a rifle with a scope, a black-powder gun, jewelry and a coin collection were stolen from a home in the 2100 block of Stevens Mill Road. The thief had pried open a door at Danny Ray Herring's home to get inside, the report said. The stolen property was valued at $3,010. No damage estimate was reported.
*A television and a digital camera were stolen after a door and a window were smashed at a home in the 500 block of Providence Church Road. The resident, Perry Royal Baker, estimated the value of the stolen property at $750 and damages at $300.
*Video-game equipment was stolen after a door was damaged in a home in the 2900 block of Emmaus Church Road. The resident, Marshall Lee Hinson II, estimated the equipment's value at $400 and damage at $100.
*Two stereo speakers were stolen after a window was smashed at a home in the 4500 block of N.C. 111 South. The resident, Wanda Jan Garner, put a $100 value on the speakers and set damage at $200.
*Stereo equipment and a compact disc player were stolen after a convertible top was slashed on a car in the 1600 block of Old Grantham Road. The resident and owner, Luther O. Clemons, estimated the stolen property's value at $1,200 and damage at $200.
2 hurt in wreck
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Road and Hines Drive, Goldsboro police said.
One driver, Leslie T. Williams, 47, of Fayetteville, and a passenger in the other vehicle, Mary Jones, 70, of Conover Road, LaGrange, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Ms. Jones' driver, Norman Jones, 74, of Conover Road, LaGrange, was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign. The report said Jones' car had collided with Williams' eastbound pickup truck.
7 buses vandalized
Seven school buses at the Eastern Wayne High School parking lot were damaged between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The inside of the buses were sprayed with fire extinguishers, causing about $400 in damages, deputies said.
Theft charged
A teenager was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with the felony larceny of a canoe.
Christopher Stanley Davis, 16, of Planters Place was accused of stealing the canoe, valued at $2,500, from a Saulston resident, Detective Sgt. Carl Lancaster said. The canoe was found Monday at a woods line.
Lancaster said detectives questioned several teenagers who were known to be in the area when the canoe was taken. Davis was developed as a suspect and charged. He was released to his parents' custody. The canoe was returned to its owner. Detective Richard Winders assisted in the case.
Missing
A 15-year-old Goldsboro girl was reported missing before dawn today by relatives to Goldsboro police.
Brenda Gray of 718-C E. Walnut St. was described as black, 4 feet 9 inches tall and 97 pounds with black hair, brown eyes, a medium complexion and a tattoo on her right arm.
When she was seen last at 8 p.m. Wednesday, she was wearing a black shirt, blue and pink pants, black shoes and a pink coat with fur. Anyone with information on her location is asked to call police at 705-6572.
