MOUNT OLIVE -- A passenger who was killed last week in a two-vehicle, head-on collision on N.C. 55 has been identified by the Highway Patrol as Victor Cerritos, 19, of 1412 Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive.
State troopers hunted several days to find Cerritos' relatives before releasing his identity Monday.
"It was like finding a needle in a haystack," said 1st Sgt. Terry McLeod, who supervises the Wayne County district Highway Patrol office.
Cerritos was killed at about 10:40 p.m. Feb. 21 in the car-truck wreck, about three-tenths of a mile west of Pineview Cemetery Road. He was riding in a westbound car that was driven by his housemate, Carlos Eduardo Torres, 21.
Angelico Reyes Cruz, 31, of Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, was charged with felony death by vehicle and driving while impaired.
The fatality was the fourth on Wayne County roads this year.
