MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College is planning a three-day music and worship workshop full of opportunities for anyone involved in church music and worship this spring.
According to Dr. Larry Oldham, associate professor of music at MOC and coordinator of the event, the workshop is designed for pastors, worship leaders, music leaders, youth and adult choir members, pianist, organist, instrumentalists and children's choir leaders.
The workshop will be held June 1-3 on the Mount Olive College campus. Participants will have the opportunity to attend several workshops, taught by leading area musicians. Workshops will cover such areas as accompanying, basic music reading, creative use of instruments, technology in music and planning worship.
Dr. David Hines, one of the workshop leaders and the chair of the MOC Department of Religion, said, that each session will offer participants help with specific questions and needs.
"Music makes up at least 40 percent of most worship services. Yet all too often worship leaders do not have strong backgrounds in music or know how music fits in the context of worship," he said. "This program will help worship and music leaders to understand the biblical and theological foundations of worship and enhance the practical skills needed to develop more dynamic music ministries."
Registration deadline for the workshop is May 15.
