Superior Court Judge Rusty Duke of Greenville has filed to run for Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Duke is challenging incumbent Sarah Parker of Raleigh, who was appointed to fill out the term of I. Beverly Lake, who retired at the end of January.

Parker has filed for re-election. The term of office is eight years.

Duke currently handles cases in the District 3-A, which includes Pitt County.

The race is non-partisan.

The filing period ends Tuesday at noon.
