A five-vehicle pileup at the intersection of U.S. 70 bypass and Oak Forest Road tied up traffic about 1 p.m. Thursday, sending five people to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. John Kenneth Newsom, 70, of Morehead City was charged with failure to reduce speed after his eastbound SUV rear-ended a Kia that hit a Land Rover that hit a Ford Explorer that hit a Dodge van. Trooper J.L. Graham said four of the five vehicles were totaled.
