7 injured in school
bus accident
Seven children on a Wayne County school bus and another person were injured Monday in a two-vehicle collision at N.C. 111 and Gertrude Grady Road, the Highway Patrol reported.
The school bus driver, Ezetta Gail Bentham, 41, of Yearling Drive, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
The injured students were taken to the Wayne Memorial Hospital emergency room, where they were treated and released, a spokesman said.
The children were identified as Tyshon Jones, 13, Jasmine Dixon, 14, and Shikilah Trotman, 13, all of Skitt Drive; Ara Delcour, 19, of Bett Drive; Richie Mendoza, 13, and Keyola Edwards, 13, both of Mansion Lane, and James Casey, 13, of Slick Rock Road.
The other person, Roger Bartlett, 46, of Powell Road, was riding in a southbound van that was driven by Michael Richard Bartlett, 24, of Powell Road.
In other accidents:
*Damages were estimated at $9,500 in a two-vehicle wreck at 4 p.m. Thursday at North Herman Street and Park Avenue, Goldsboro police said. A westbound driver, Kendall Brooke Grantham, 20, of Moore Allen Street, Dudley, was charged with a safe-movement violation and driving while her license was revoked. The report said Ms. Grantham was leaving Herman Park and her car collided with a northbound sport utility vehicle. She told police that she had turned around to check on her baby.
*Damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 1:27 p.m. Wednesday at Riverbend Road, Debbie Drive and Askew Place, the Highway Patrol said. David Earl Stafford, 63, of Darby Road, was charged with a yield violation.
Assault charges
A 50-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police after he allegedly assaulted city sanitation workers and a police officer who investigated the incident.
A sanitation worker, Gerald McDuffie, 31, told police that he was driving a truck in the 400 block of Lime Street at about 9:40 a.m., when a man ran from a house and waved a knife at him. McDuffie drove away and called police.
Officer Steven Powers found the suspect 10 minutes later at the man's home. When Powers tried to put the man in his patrol car, the officer said the man kicked him and then bent the antenna on his mobile computer terminal.
Robert Ray Reid of Lime Street was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a law-enforcement officer, damage to real property, three counts of communicating threats and four counts of resisting arrest. Reid was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
Four people were arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug violations in separate incidents.
*Mahogany Greenfield, 16, of 11th Street was charged with possession of marijuana in a prison after she was arrested in the 500 block of East Elm Street on other charges. She also was charged with felony possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers and three misdemeanors -- possession of a firearm by a minor, possession of a concealed weapon and resisting arrest. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
A second woman was arrested in the same incident. Karin King, 26, of North Virginia Street was charged with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner; two misdemeanors, loitering and resisting arrest, and two probation violations. She was jailed in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
*Allen Terrell Pride, 26, of Courtyard Circle was charged by the Selective Enforcement Unit with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana in the 1100 block of Courtyard Circle. Police seized 64 grams of marijuana, worth about $900, and 44 bags of cocaine, worth about $640, after a two-day investigation. Pride was jailed in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond. Goldsboro Housing Authority police assisted in the arrest.
*Randy Prescott Adams, 25, of U.S. 70 East was charged with manufacture of a controlled substance and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling a controlled substance. His secured bond was set at $8,000.
*Jeffrey Tyrone Davis, 35, of Woodland Church Road, Dudley, was charged with possession of cocaine in the 200 block of South Leslie Street. He was released from custody on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Theft charge
A 21-year-old man from Dudley was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony offenses in connection with a residential break-in.
Jose Luis Fonseca of Nancy Drive was accused of stealing a speaker box system, compact discs and a deep-fat fryer from a home on Everittsville Road near Dudley, Detective Robert Golimowski said. The property was recovered and returned to the resident.
Fonseca was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond. He was arrested at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base by Golimowski and Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler.
Jewelry stolen
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports.
*About $6,000 worth of jewelry and a stereo system were stolen Thursday from a home in the 1400 block of Old Grantham Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Maria Elena Resendiz-Juarez, reported the theft of three diamond necklaces, three gold bracelets, three gold necklaces and a diamond necklace charm. The stereo was valued at $300. No sign of forced entry was found, but the home had been ransacked, the report said.
*About $1,000 worth of gold jewelry, two televisions, two stereo systems and a DVD-video cassette recorder combination were stolen Thursday from a home in the 100 block of McCullen Lane, deputies said. The thief had damaged a door and a jewelry box, the report said. The resident, Claudia Patricia Santos, reported that the jewelry included 20 pairs of earrings, three bracelets, two necklaces and 15 rings. The stolen entertainment property was valued at $630.
*A man asked to see a 1.02-carat, princess-cut diamond ring Thursday night at Daughtry Jewelers in Berkeley Mall, then grabbed the gold ring and fled, police said. The man was described as black, about 30 years old, 6-feet tall and 210 pounds with short black hair and brown eyes, and he wore a dark jacket and a tan hat. The ring was worth $4,000.
