Eleven contestants will flaunt their figures in evening gowns, demonstrate their talents onstage and show off their brainpower by answering tough questions.
But this will be no ordinary pageant. The contestants all will be men.
They will compete for the coveted title of Wayne County Sweetheart during a womanless beauty pageant Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Wayne Community College auditorium.
The pageant is being sponsored by the Wayne County employees Relay for Life team, Terrell's Tornadoes. The team was formed in honor of the late Joe Terrell, who served as personnel director for the county.
Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society for cancer research and local programs.
The "beauties" will be Joe Allen, Sherwood Daly and Carey Winders of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office; John Bartlett of the county Solid Waste Department; Kevin Johnson and Howard Scott of the county Cooperative Extension Service; Alan Lumpkin of the county Tax Department; Trey Rhodes of emergency services; Jim Roosen of the Health Department; County Commissioner Efton Sager and County Manager Lee Smith.
Organizers said that all 396 tickets to the show were sold within the first 48 hours.
