Break-in
charges filed
Wayne County authorities have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a string of break-ins.
Linwood Ray Boykin Jr. of Talbert Road was charged with five felony counts each of breaking and entering and larceny and one felony count of possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of an additional $63,500 secured bond.
Boykin was accused of break-ins and thefts on Talbert Drive, Arrington Bridge Road and River Bend Road and from the Eureka Food Mart, Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler said.
About $3,000 worth of stolen property has been recovered. Additional charges will be sought through grand jury indictments, Kabler said.
The Sheriff's Office had charged Boykin with breaking and entering and larceny in another case.
Boykin also has been charged by Princeton police with stealing a sport utility vehicle and by Goldsboro police with two felony drug offenses and three other felony property charges after he was involved in a traffic collision last week.
Two sentenced
in robbery attempt
Two men have been sentenced in Wayne County Superior Court for their part in an attempted robbery of a downtown Goldsboro fast-food restaurant.
Jabari Fields, 20, of Flamingo Circle, Dudley, and Quentin L. Kenon, 18, of Neal Street were charged with the April 18 armed robbery of the Central Park restaurant at 212 E. Ash St.
Goldsboro police reported that a man had walked up the drive-through window, displayed a shotgun and demanded money. He grabbed the cash and fled.
Fields was not arrested until Aug. 30. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit an armed robbery and was sentenced to 20 to 33 months in prison. He was credited with serving 176 days in jail while awaiting his sentencing.
Kenon was arrested April 25. He also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit an armed robbery and was sentenced to 20 to 33 months in prison. But the term was suspended on condition that he complete 36 months of supervised probation and pay $748 in restitution, a $300 fine, court costs and $1,170 to his court-appointed lawyer. He was credited with having served five months in jail while awaiting his sentencing.
In another case, Kenon pleaded guilty to breaking and entering of a home on North John Street on Oct. 31. An alert citizen's call enabled police to arrive quickly and arrest Kenon.
Kenon was sentenced to five to six months in prison, but the term was suspended on condition he complete 36 months of supervised probation, pay $10 in restitution, a $200 fine, court costs and $422.50 to his court-appointed lawyer.
Most of the stolen property was recovered in another home, about a block away, police said. Two co-defendants have not been tried.
Man sentenced
A man who was trying to sell cocaine at Berkeley Mall has pleaded guilty in Wayne County Superior Court to possession of cocaine and sentenced to probation.
Victor Antonio Benitez, 20, was arrested Nov. 21 after a mall employee told police that a man was trying to sell cocaine to mall visitors. Benitez, who did not disclose a home address, scuffled with police briefly but was subdued and jailed.
Benitez was sentenced by Judge Michael Morgan to four to five months in prison. The term was suspended on condition that the defendant complete 18 months of supervised probation and pay a $200 fine, court costs and $260 for his court-appointed lawyer. He was credited with serving 63 days in jail while awaiting the sentencing hearing.
Three charges
A 48-year-old man from Smithfield was arrested Thursday night by Goldsboro police and charged with three felony offenses.
Ricky Thomas Pollock was charged with breaking and entering of a vehicle, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a$15,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A total of $2,303.40 was missing from a safe at Applebee's restaurant at 901 N. Spence Ave., police said. A night manager said he had put the money in a bag and put it in the safe early Thursday morning, but the day manager said the cash was gone when he arrived, the report said.
*A television and a fire extinguisher were stolen between Jan. 13 and Thursday after a door was damaged at a vacant rental home in the 800 block of East Elm Street, police said. Damage was set at $70. No estimated value of the stolen property was reported. The home is owned by Leslie Jones of Winston-Salem.
*Four tires and rims were stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a company vehicle at Ambleside at 2902 Central Heights Road, police said. The tires and rims were valued at $1,500.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A computer, a child's bracelet and $50 in coins were stolen Thursday after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 100 block of St. John Church Road, deputies said. The resident, C.D. Pridgen, estimated the value of the stolen property at $870 and damages at $150.
*A black, two-door 1988 Buick Regal was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from the 100 block of Dotsie Drive, deputies said. The owner and resident, Stephanie Gwen Davis, said the car was worth $1,800.
Truck wreck
A tractor-trailer truck ran off Arrington Bridge Road early Wednesday and landed in a ditch, causing about $20,000 in damages, the Highway Patrol said.The driver, Michael Scott Lewis, 40, of Greenfield Cemetery Road, Seven Springs, told troopers that he swerved to avoid deer in the road. He was charged with driving left of center after the wreck at 12:41 a.m., south of Emmaus Church Road.
Missing
Brittany O'Brien
A 15-year-old girl was reported missing Thursday to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Brittany Leigh O'Brien of 1860 Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was described as white, 5-feet-6 and 160 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes. When she was seen last at noon Wednesday, she was wearing blue jeans and a blue hooded sweatshirt. She may be riding in a silver Dodge Neon. Anyone with information on her location is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
