LAGRANGE -- Herbert T. "Bud" Curdts and Mary Margaret Harrison have been named LaGrange's 2005 Citizens of the Year.
The announcement was made by the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce at its annual meeting Tuesday.
Both Curdts, 66, and Ms. Harrison, 67, are active in the LaGrange Arts Council. He is the vice president, and she is the secretary.
Curdts is also active in the Rotary and Ms. Harrison is the coordinator for the American Red Cross blood drive in LaGrange and is an active member of Community Baptist Church.
Curdts, a native of Tennessee, first lived in LaGrange 46 years ago while serving in the United States Air Force. He left to pursue a career as a consulting engineer for hospitals and returned after retiring in 1999.
Ms. Harrison also retired in 1999 after teaching for many years in Lenoir County schools. She was born in Alamance County and graduated from East Carolina College in 1960.
Both were honored Tuesday for using their retirement years to make their community a better place, town officials said.
