Two people were injured in an accident shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday on the U.S. 117 bypass, Goldsboro police said. The driver of the car, Myra P. Outlaw, 78, of South Center Street, Mount Olive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Hazel K. Thornton, 81, of Pinebranch Lane, Dudley, a passenger in her car, was listed today in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said. Ms. Outlaw, who was traveling west, was charged with a stoplight violation after her car collided with a northbound tractor-trailer truck driven by Billy Rex Hensley Sr., 55, of Edgewood, Mo. Damages were estimated at $4,500.
