Arts Council to offer classes, workshops

The Arts Council of Wayne County will offer the following classes and workshops in February:

*How to Work with Acrylics for Beginners, workshop for adults, Ann Humphries, instructor. Students will be introduced to materials and learn about values, colors and basic techniques of acrylics. The workshop will begin with a short discussion and demonstration. Students will then work on a basic landscape and floral painting. Students can choose to attend the Monday sessions on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 from 6 until 8 p.m., and/or the Wednesday sessions on Feb. 22 and March 1 from 10 a.m. until noon. Fee is $20 for Monday sessions and $20 for Wednesday sessions.

*Violin Lessons for Adults and Children, Chris Ellis, instructor. Students register for private one half-hour lessons on Mondays or Wednesdays. Classes are offered on a monthly basis. Monday classes will be held on Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27; times are 12:30 until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday classes will be held on Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22; times are 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The monthly fee for February is $80 for Monday lessons and $80 for Wednesday lessons.

Children's Classes and Workshops:

*Painting with 4 and 5-Year-Olds, Penny Craven, instructor. Class meets on Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23, from 2:15 until 3 p.m. Fee is $40.

*Painting with the Masters, ages 9 through 12, Penny Craven, instructor. Students learn about the styles of famous artists and create a painting in the styles of those artists. Class meets on Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 3:15 until 4:15 p.m. Fee is $50.

*A Valentine Picture Frame, ages 7 through 12, Emily Holt, instructor. Students will be painting their frames and using mixed media to decorate the frame with their original designs. The class meets on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Fee is $10.

All classes will be held on the second floor at the Arts Council, 2406 E. Ash St.
