Stolen pickup hits
4 parked vehicles
A stolen rental pickup truck sideswiped four parked cars Wednesday night on Hugh Street, inflicting about $11,300 in damages, Goldsboro police reported.
During the collision, the southbound pickup lost a wheel that was found under the last vehicle. The driver continued with the right side of the pickup dragging the ground for about two blocks, where he parked the truck and fled. The collision occurred at 11:41 p.m. near Olivia Lane.
Two of the parked vehicles were registered to Wilton Andrae Joyner of Phillips Street, LaGrange. The others were registered to Tomas Donnell Carrol and Gwendolyn B. Spruill, both of Hugh Street.
The renter of the car, Tasha T. McNeil of Goldsboro, reported earlier Wednesday night that the pickup that she had rented from Enterprise Leasing had been stolen from near her home on Courtyard Circle.
Driver injured
A driver from Dudley was injured in a three-vehicle collision Wednesday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near Wayne Memorial Drive, police said.
Alice E. Young, 47, of Genoa Road was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, the report said. Her condition was not immediately available.
The report said the driver of a tractor-trailer truck, Ronald James Peterson, 41, of Greenville, was changing from the left lane to the right lane and collided with Ms. Young's eastbound car. The collision caused Ms. Young to lose control of her car, and it slid across the median and the opposite westbound lanes. Debris from the wreck struck a westbound car that was driven by Ralph Joseph Hill Jr., 43, of Bolling Drive. Peterson was charged with a safe-movement violation.
Damages were set at $3,550.
Jewelry theft
An estimated $11,405 worth of jewelry was stolen Tuesday from a jewelry case at Kmart at 201 N. Berkeley Blvd., a Goldsboro police report said.
The jewelry included 11 diamond bracelets and four diamond rings. The lock on the case also was stolen, police said. The theft occurred between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Police also are investigating these matters:
*A computer, a printer and two video-game systems were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a mobile home in Tanglewood Mobile Home Park in the 3200 block of Central Heights Road, police said. The resident, Bernard Fenderson, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,878 and damage at $150.
*About $50 in food was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after two windows and two shelves were damaged at First Baptist Church at 125 S. John St., police said. Damages were set at $250.
Scooter stolen
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A Dudley man was robbed of his burgundy motor scooter before dawn today as he left a friend's home on Timothy Street near Dudley, deputies said. Steven Devon Leach, 36, said he was surrounded by three black men at about 1:35 a.m. The suspects asked to ride the scooter and when Leach refused, they assaulted him, the report said. The suspects fled toward Potts Road. The Big Mac scooter was valued at $2,400. The assailants could not be described.
*Two chain saws and an air compressor were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday after a barn door was pried open in the 800 block of Riverbend Road, deputies said. The owner, Tara Lee Owens of Greenville, estimated the value of the stolen property at $300.
Fraud
A Dudley woman says she was called by someone purporting to be from a district attorney's office in Connecticut about three worthless check that she had written almost two years ago, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
The woman, Jessica A. Kornegay, told deputies that she had never been to Connecticut and did not give the caller much information.
When Deputy Matt Miller called the number of the office and identified himself, he said he was treated rudely and was transferred to a voice mail.
Ms. Kornegay said some property had been stolen from her home a few years ago and wondered if that could be an explanation if the call was legitimate.
