7 hurt in wrecks
Seven people were injured in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:21 p.m. Saturday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Parkway Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Karen Sergent-Rakers, 38, and her passenger, Danielle Rakers, 18, both of Shine Road, Snow Hill, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other driver, Alexandra Elizabeth Hulse, 16, of Overbrook Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*A passenger was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:40 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Perkins Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said. Brandi Perkins, 24, of Amhurst Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was riding with Laura Renee Smith, 48, of Old Hinton Road, Princeton. The other motorist, Kenneth Marcel Blackmon, 37, of Smithfield, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were set at $1,100.
*A driver was injured in a one-truck wreck at 2:14 p.m. Saturday on Church of God Road near Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jesse Speight Oakes, 75, of Gurganus Road, Snow Hill, was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed after his pickup had run off the right side. Damage was put at $2,000.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 9:59 p.m. Friday on U.S. 117 Alternate near Southern Wayne Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Margo Maria Boykin, 17, of N.C. 55 West, Mount Olive, and two passengers in the other vehicle, Delawn Armwood, 17, of Dogwood Lane, Mount Olive, and Ebony Williams, 16, of Azalea Lane, Mount Olive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Boykin was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The other driver, Jesus Raquiel Diaz Roblero, 25, of Pearlie Drive, Dudley, was going north.
Break-in charge
Alert citizens saw someone breaking into a business at 1800 U.S. 117 South, then chased the man toward Goldsboro and notified authorities, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
Cpl. Joe Smith responded with his search dog, Maggie, found a man hiding in a ditch near railroad track and recovered the brown Labrador retriever that he had stolen. The dog was valued at $250.
Neal Sheral Summerlin of N.C. 222 East was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
A vehicle window and quarter panel and a window, a wall and a clock in the business were damaged, the report said. Damages were estimated at $1,140.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A cap gun, valued at $5,000, was stolen Sunday from the Division 7 Tattoo shop at 1923 N. William St., police said. The thief had smashed a door glass, inflicting about $350 in damages to get inside.
*A three-carat diamond ring, valued at $6,500, was taken between Saturday and Sunday from a room at Country Inn and Suites at 2302 Norwood Avenue, police said. The ring was owned by Carolyn Faye Withrow of Atlanta.
*Video-game equipment was stolen Friday after a window was damaged at a home in the 200 block of Mercer Street, police said. The resident, L.F. Lamm, estimated the value of the equipment at $488 and damage at $50.
*A purse with personal papers and a Bible were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a car window was broken in the 1500 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The owner, Laurrie Hinson of Pikeville, said her property was worth $90.
*A thief smashed a door glass at Frema Motors at 1112 Sunburst Drive between Sunday and dawn today and stole a car key, police said. The key was worth $100. Damage was set at $150.
*A red, two-door 1997 Saturn was stolen Sunday from the Budget Kings Meat Market parking lot at 622 N. Madison Ave., police said. The owner, Janice H. Sparhawk of Goldsboro, said the car was worth $2,800.
*A red, two-door 1987 Acura Integra was stolen between Friday and Saturday from the 800 block of North Madison Avenue, police said. The owner, Alvin Nathaniel Gaines Jr. of Goldsboro, put a $1,300 value on the disabled car.
