Store robbed;
man is charged
A convenience store clerk was robbed Tuesday night of $241, and a man was arrested later by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with armed robbery.
Jimmy Arnold Crumpler, 42, of Old Grantham Road was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Sheriff Carey Winders today attributed the arrest to the alertness of the woman clerk and an unidentified citizen who was pumping gas outside. They got the license plate number of the getaway car, an older Buick, and told deputies.
The clerk reported that a masked white man entered the Friendly Mart at 335 U.S. 13 South at about 8 p.m., pretended to have a handgun and demanded money. She surrendered the cash and he fled in a car.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for the registered owner's address. Winders said the Special Weapons and Tactics team, Maj. Ray Smith, Lt. Darryl Overton and deputies went to the home and found the man.
Winders said property stolen from the store was identified and the all of the cash was recovered. A ski mask also was found nearby. A surveillance videotape was seized from the store as evidence.
"Getting the license number was a definite help in the case," Winders said. "I want to thank the citizen and the clerk for having the initiative to get the number."
Fugitive arrested
A 22-year-old man wanted on three felony warrants in Virginia was found Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office during a vehicle stop in Goldsboro.
Christopher Raye Brown had been charged with two counts of malicious assault and one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Brown had been living in an apartment in the 1400 block of South John Street with 23-year-old Belone Malana Moore. Ms. Moore was charged with feloniously harboring a fugitive from justice and two misdemeanors, providing false information to an officer and resisting arrest. She was jailed in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
The Sheriff's Warrant Squad had been notified that Brown was staying with Ms. Moore and she was driving him around the city. Deputies found her and advised her of the charges against Brown. Within a week, deputies said she had moved to an unknown address.
Deputies K.M. Cox and C.G. Talarico were told that Brown was staying with Ms. Moore at a new address. After following the couple, Brown and Ms. Moore were arrested in the woman's car during a traffic stop at Olivia Lane and Lincoln Drive.
12 hurt in wrecks
Twelve people were injured and damages were estimated at $61,800 in 11 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday at East Mulberry and North Jackson streets, Goldsboro police said. Johnice W. Williams, 44, of Lake City, S.C., and her passenger, Shandon White, 20, of Raleigh, and the other driver, Travia Q. Carlisle, 20, of East Mulberry Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Williams was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday at West Ash and North George streets, police said. Domonic LaJune Royall, 29, of Sami Street, and his passenger, Fred Williams, 34, of Fairview Circle, were released after emergency-room treatment. Damages were put at $4,700.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 12:27 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot in the 2200 block of Wayne Memorial Drive, police said. Rosalie Judy, 38, of Ruger Court, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. Corey Bedford Walker, 16, of April Lane, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $1,200.
*A Wayne County deputy's car hit a deer at 1:29 a.m. Tuesday on N.C. 581 near N.C. 222. Deputy Darren Robert Craig, 29, of Goldsboro was neither injured nor charged. The 2000 patrol car sustained about $1,200 in damages.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a three-vehicle, rear-end collision at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Royall Avenue, police said. Josiah Abram Chrisley, 22, of South Harding Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and her car was demolished at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, when it ran off U.S. 117 and struck a power pole near an exit ramp to N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. Felisandra Gee Bryant, 29, of Courtyard Circle was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $2,500. Damage to the pole and cables was set at $6,000.
*A passenger was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at N.C. 111 and River Road, the Highway Patrol said. Guadalupe Garnica, 16, of Pink Hill was released after emergency-room treatment. Samuel Lopez Rojos, 22, of Pineview Cemetery Road, Seven Springs, was charged with failure to reduce speed . Damages were fixed at $3,500.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 11:25 a.m. Saturday at Perkins Mill and O'Berry roads, the Highway Patrol said. Celena G. Sutton, 32, of Melodie Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. Rene J. Barletter Jr., 25, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
*Two people were injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 6:10 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 117 near Lees Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Mario Flores Leonides, 21, of U.S. 117, Calypso, was released after emergency-room treatment. The passenger, Luis Arenales, 32, of U.S. 117, Calypso, left the hospital against medical advice, a Wayne Memorial spokeswoman said. Leonides was charged with reckless driving. The van, valued at $5,500, was destroyed.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and the pickup truck that he was driving was demolished in a wreck at 8:30 a.m. Friday on U.S. 117 Alternate near Hope Boulevard, the Highway Patrol said. Kenneth Earl Renn Jr., 32, of North William Street was treated, admitted and released from the hospital. He was charged with driving left of center. The truck was valued at $5,000.
*Damages were estimated at $8,200 in a three-vehicle collision at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at N.C. 581 and Rosewood Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joey Lynn Wadsworth, 23, of Clayton, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
Drug charges
A 46-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday after a joint investigation by the Goldsboro police Selective Enforcement and Housing Authority units and charged with two felony drug offenses. Joseph Alton Harper of North Audubon Avenue was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An amplifier and two speakers were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a car window was smashed in the 200 block of North Spence Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Christopher Denham estimated the value of items at $375 and damage at $200.
*A scooter and video-game equipment were stolen between Monday and Tuesday after a door glass was broken at Sunrise Learning Center at 1508 E. Ash St., police said. The scooter, valued at $1,000, was owned by an employee, Felix Lamont Gurley of Princeton. The video-game equipment was valued at $30. Damage was set at $25.
*Video-game equipment and 50 DVD movies were stolen Tuesday night from a home in the 200 block of Nancy Drive. Nelson James Davis put a $650 value on the missing property.
