Sex offense
A 29-year-old man has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with a felony sex offense.
Roderic B. Thompson of New Hope Road was charged with a first-degree sex offense with a child. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $75,000 secured bond.
The investigating detectives, Richard Winders and Sgt. Tammy Odom, said they had received a report about the sexual assault of three children. The alleged crimes occurred two or three years ago, the report said, and were brought to the attention of the children's mother.
The Wayne County Department of Social Services assisted in the investigation.
Additional charges will be sought through grand jury indictments, the detectives said.
Woman robbed
A Goldsboro woman was robbed before dawn today of $50 at East Walnut and Kornegay streets, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Tammy Teasley, 40, told officers that at 3:50 a.m. a black man asked her for her money and she said she had none. The suspect then grabbed Ms. Teasley's left arm, reached in her pants pocket, snatched the cash and fled east, the report said.
The robber was described as being 5-feet-10 and 180 pounds with a medium build and black hair. He wore a red and gray hooded coat and blue pants.
House fire
SEVEN SPRINGS -- A family lost almost all of their belongings, including Christmas presents, Wednesday night, when a fire destroyed their home at 1249 Pineview Cemetery Road, officials said.
Ricky Williams, his wife and four children escaped the blaze, but their old wood-frame home, valued at $10,000, was a total loss.
Pricetown Fire Chief Joey McCullen said he thought something had caught fire in a wall near the fireplace.
When firefighters arrived soon after 9 p.m., McCullen said, "Fire was coming out of the front door, both ends of the house and the attic."
About 12 Pricetown firefighters responded. Seven Springs assisted with four trucks, and Indian Springs brought three.
The couple managed to save some possession from their bedroom, the only room without much fire damage, McCullen said. The Red Cross was assisting the family in providing clothing and temporary lodging.
7 hurt in wrecks
Seven people were injured and damages were estimated at $49,700 in nine recent traffic accidents in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured and her car was demolished in a wreck at 6:16 a.m. Thursday on New Hope Road, east of Wayne Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Sarah Marie Snowden, 19, of Hill Street, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Snowden was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The car was valued at $7,000.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $10,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 9:24 a.m. Thursday at North William Street and Royall Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Roland Bryan Overman Jr., 60, of Riverbend Road was released after emergency-room treatment. Lloyd Bradford Brewer III, 62, of Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a stoplight violation.
*A Goldsboro motorist was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:10 p.m. Thursday on North Herman Street near Park Avenue, police said. Danielle Trinell Barnes, 21, of Isler Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $3,000.
*Both drivers were injured in a two-car wreck at 2:10 p.m. Thursday at Royall Avenue and North William Street, police said. Susan S. Ellis, 44, of True Vine Road, Pikeville, and Brandi Nicole Matthews, 19, of Robin Street were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Ellis was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were put at $4,000.
*One driver was injured in a three-vehicle accident at 7:05 p.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Ridgecrest Drive, police said. Julie Ann Stanley, 17, of Claridge Nursery Road was released after emergency-room treatment. Amy Lynn Jackson, 18, of East Raintree Lane and Chrystal C. Cox, 23, of Central Heights Road both were charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were fixed at $4,800.
*A pedestrian, getting off a city bus, was struck by a sport utility vehicle at 3:20 p.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Graves Drive, police said. Anita M. McCormick, 34, of Hamilton Drive was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital. The driver, Caroline M. Mutters, 26, of Wingspread Drive, was not charged.
*Damages were estimated at $5,400 in a two-car crash at 10:40 p.m. Thursday in the Pinewood Square parking lot on North Spence Avenue, police said. , Jonathan O'Neal Bond, 23, of Camp Jubilee Road, Seven Springs, was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-car rear-end collision at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 70 near Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Robert Lenwood Goodson, 58, of Rhonda Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Purse snatched
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is seeking information on a purse snatching at about 5:25 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Food Lion supermarket in Pikeville.
Reports said a suspect walked up to the woman victim, fell into her cart and put his hand on her young child, blocking her view of the purse in the cart. The second suspect grabbed the purse. After a few minutes, the woman discovered that her purse was missing. Store surveillance videotapes of the incident are being processed and enhanced.
The first suspect was described as white, about 35-40 years old, 5-feet-9 to 6-feet tall and 160 to 190 pounds with a slim build, short dark brown hair in the back with bangs in the front, a small mustache, dark glassy eyes and a small gap between his front teeth. The second suspect could not be described.

Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*About $2,000 worth of electrical wire was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a construction site in the 1000 block of Stanley Chapel Church Road. The owner, Lawrence Leon Barwick, said the wiring had run from a panel box to all rooms in the house.
*A purse with credit cards, personal papers and keys was stolen Thursday after a car window was smashed at the Uchiyama America parking lot on Arrington Bridge Road. The owner, Valencia N. Hussey of Bryant Street, estimated the value of the stolen property at $148 and damage at $150.
