Booze It and Lose It campaign

Six people were charged by Goldsboro police with driving while impaired during the fourth week of the winter "Booze It and Lose It" campaign against drunken driving.

The police conducted two checkpoints and 21 saturation and random patrols from from Dec. 5-11. Police charged 106 people with speeding, 19 with driving while their license was revoked, one with a license violation and 134 with other traffic violations. They also filed three drug charges and 13 other criminal charges. One stolen vehicle was found, and one fugitive was arrested.

Almost 2,600 people have been charged in North Carolina with driving while impaired since the campaign started Nov. 18.

A total of 5,766 seat-belt, 1,038 child-restraint, 29,116 speeding and 68,792 other traffic citations have been issued. The 11-year-old statewide campaign will end Jan. 2.
