Eight Christmas parades in four days on tap

Parade weekend in the Wayne County area starts Thursday and runs through Sunday, with no less than eight Christmas parades planned.
The LaGrange Christmas Parade will be Thursday, starting at 4 p.m. Parade entries will line up along Railroad Street.
Cherry Hospital will kick off the show with its annual parade that winds through the hospital grounds starting at 3:15 p.m.
The city of Goldsboro's parade begins at 4 p.m. Saturday. The annual event starts and ends on Center Street. More than 140 entries are expected. The theme for this year's parade is "The Gift of Giving." Three charitable agencies will be honored for their work in helping disaster victims -- the Red Cross, Salvation Army and MERCI Center. The parade is sponsored by the Goldsboro Jaycees.
Lineup for the Mount Olive parade on Saturday begins at 9 a.m. at the corner of Henderson Street and Breazeale Avenue, with the parade starting at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at the Mount Olive Centre, go along Breazeale Avenue to Pollock Street, left on Center Street and end at the Mount Olive Fire Department.
Fremont and Princeton will both have parades Saturday at 1 p.m.
In Fremont, more than 90 entries are expected, including Miss Daffodil, Little Miss Daffodil, the Charles B. Aycock High School Band and the Norwayne Middle School Band. Entries will line up at 11:30 a.m. on North Vance Street. Frank and Anne Hinnant, two residents who have been active in Fremont community affairs, will serve as the grand marshals.
In Princeton, parade entries will line up at noon at Princeton School, and the parade will start at 1 p.m. Crafts will be displayed in the back of the Community Building, where hot dogs, chili, soup, baked goods and beverages also will be sold. After the parade, Santa Claus will be available for photos with children. Entertainment will be provided in front of the building. More information is available from Jean Haddock at 936-8581.
The Faison Christmas Parade will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in downtown Faison. Participants will line up at the Southern Produce warehouse, and the parade will run along Main Street. There will also be a Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Community Building on Main Street. There will be refreshments served, including cookies and hot chocolate, and there will be Christmas caroling. For information, call Bill Creech at 910-267-1782.
On Sunday, Pikeville will have its first Christmas parade at 4 p.m. Entries will line up at Pikeville Park at 2:30. Organizer Dennis Lewis said he is expecting about 50 entries for this year's parade, which will run along Railroad and Main streets.
