The toy run is over and now members of the Wayne County Motorcycle Riders are gearing up for their fourth annual silent auction to provide local families with a happy Christmas.

One of the event organizers, Debbie Swartz, said the toy run provides toys for children, but the group wants to do more than just that. "We want to provide a more complete Christmas for each family we help," she said.

"We wanted to also buy clothes and Christmas paper to wrap all the gifts," said Ms. Swartz. "We needed a way to raise money for that and decided on a silent auction."

The auction and a 50-50 drawing will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Wanda's on Berkeley Boulevard. Ms. Swartz said anyone can attend. Wanda's provides food and local merchants and individuals donate items for the auction.

Ms. Swartz said this includes such items as a handmade quit from a woman at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, jewelry from JA Jewelry and Barnes Jewelers, coupons from McDonald's and Chick-fil-A, a Belk's gift basket, a crocheted afghan and a guitar from Fredericks Music Store. "We really get some neat stuff," she said.

Last year's auction raised more then $1,000, according to Ms. Swartz. "We helped quite a few families at Christmas time last year," she said.

"The auction has gone over so well here."
