3 people injured
in 5-vehicle wreck
Three people were injured in a five-vehicle collision and three others were hurt in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, Goldsboro police reported. Wet roads contributed to the mishaps.
In the first wreck, three people were injured and damages were estimated at $26,800 in a five-vehicle crash at 12:04 p.m. near the North William Street exit.
One driver, Sean Joseph Hazen, 23, of East Lockhaven Drive, and another driver, Megan Elizabeth Douglas, 22, of Washington, N.C., and one of her passengers, Shebellera Hollis, 28, of Greenville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Two drivers, Hazen and Eric Casey Jones, 18, of Acreview Drive, were charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
The report said the wreck happened like this:
Ms. Douglas was turning right from the bypass and a following driver, Anthony Caesar Camaioni, 60, of Handley Acres Drive, had to brake suddenly. Then Hazen's car collided with the rear of a trailer that Camaioni's sport utility vehicle was pulling and the pickup truck that Jones was driving collided with the rear of Hazen's car. The impact of the second collision sent the pickup into a SUV in the left lane that was driven by Dennis Joe Wilson, 62, of Westover Drive.
In the second crash, three people were hurt in a three-vehicle collision at 5:15 p.m. on an exit ramp to North Berkeley Boulevard.
One driver, Willie Odell Bowden, 57, of North William Street, and one of his passengers, James Kornegay, 50, of Patten Street, Mount Olive, and another motorist, Phillip Michael Williamson, 47, of Tracy Place, were released after emergency-room treatment.
A third driver, Gregorio Loa Pina, 28, of Brenn Loop Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were set at $3,300.
Goldsboro police on Tuesday investigated four other collisions that involved serious injuries or significant property damages.
*Four people were injured in a two-car wreck at 7:52 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Drive and Country Day Road. One driver, Soroya Leree Ali, 18, of East New Hope Road, and her passengers, Brittany Ashford, 15, and Marquail Ashford, 14, both of East Lockhaven Drive, and the other driver, Catherine Gabrielle Howell, 20, of Ash Landing, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Ali was charged with failure to reduce speed on the wet road after the rear-end wreck. Damages were put at $3,800.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:30 p.m. on the U.S. 117 bypass near Hooks River Road. Ilene Rena Edwards, 40, of Arrowhead Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said the other driver, Cecilia Lynn Martinez, 18, of Fellowship Church Road, Princeton, was making a U-turn and the car that she was driving collided with Ms. Edwards' northbound auto. Ms. Martinez was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were fixed at $4,000.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-car wreck at 4 p.m. at North William Street and Hooks River Road. One driver, Pamela Renae Wilder, 36, of South William Street, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Ms. Wilder pulled from Hooks River Road and the car collided with a southbound auto that was driven by Matthew Carlton Rawlings, 60, of Rosewood Road.
*Damages were estimated at $5,100 in a two-vehicle collision at 11:13 p.m. at 11th and Church streets. One driver, Andrea Nicole Coley, 35, of South Andrews Avenue, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Amissha Laverne Smith Bell, 27, of Westover Road.
The Highway Patrol also investigated three recent collisions in Wayne County that involved serious injuries and high property damages.
*A driver was injured and the truck that he was operating was demolished in a wreck at 2 p.m. Monday on New Hope Road near Miller's Chapel Road. William Monroe Grady, 73, of Albertson was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with a lane-control violation after the truck ran off the right side, then slid across the road off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The truck was valued at $8,000.
*Damages were set at $8,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 10:03 a.m. Monday on U.S. 70 near Riverbend Road, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Tonya Jeanette Heath, 26, of Pine Level, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver, Joseph Nelson Pate, 61, of Hinnant Road, Pikeville, was slowing to turn into a driveway, the report said.
*A driver was injured at 8:38 a.m. Sunday when the pickup truck that he was driving ran off the left side, struck a ditch, passed through small trees and crashed into a home in the 3500 block of Stevens Mill Road. Randy Wilson Temple Jr., 19, of Stevens Mill Road, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with reckless driving. The pickup was valued at $3,000. Damage to Kenneth Scott's home was put at $10,000.
Man is charged
in three crimes
A 21-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with multiple felony offenses in three separate crimes.
Javon Montay Gills of Claiborne Street was accused of barging into a home on Sunday in the 1900 block of East Beech Street, Investigator Dale Foster said. Gills was charged with first-degree burglary and larceny of two necklaces, worth about $400, and $14. C-shift officers assisted in the investigation.
Gills was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods after a residential break-in Nov. 12 in the 1600 block of Rose Street, Investigator G.N. Lynch said. Jewelry and other property, valued at more than $2,560, was stolen.
Gills also was charged by Investigator M.K. Horstmann with an attempted common-law robbery at a gas station in the 1600 block of East Ash Street.
Gills was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $60,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Monday. Further arrests and charges are possible, police said.
Three charges
A 33-year-old man from Princeton was arrested Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony crimes in connection with a residential break-in.
Orvis Earl Swaney Jr. of Massey Holt Road was accused of breaking into a home in early November on N.C. 581 North, Detective Sgt. Shawn Harris said. Swaney was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $13,000 secured bond.
