Princeton prepares for Veterans Day events

Princeton's annual Veterans Celebration will be Saturday.
A parade will begin at 2 p.m. at Princeton School, with all local veterans invited to participate. Veterans are urged to drive or ride in a special vehicle. A float and some golf carts also will be available.
The day begins with a chili cookoff at 6:30 a.m. Judging will be held at 11:30 a.m. and sales will start at noon.
Other morning activities will start downtown at 9:45 a.m. with the announcement of T-shirt, essay, coloring and poster contests. At 10 a.m., there will be free entertainment provided by Cousin Brossy, The Spirituals, Samantha Casey and the Bluegrass Jam, Blake Price, Ted Jones and the Tarheel Boys, Praise Out Loud, Tippy Toes Dance Studio, and the Goldsboro Silver Tappers.
Downtown Princeton will also be the site for demonstrations, vendors, moonwalk, slides, and free blood pressure checks. Memorabilia and school contests displays will be at the Princeton Community Building. There will be golf carts on Railroad Street with volunteers to drive the elderly and handicapped to all events.
After the parade, a bandstand event downtown will feature retired Col. Walter J. "Joe" Marm of Fremont as guest speaker. The Princeton High School Band will provide a mini-concert before the bandstand event, with Boy Scout Troop 23 presenting a flag retirement ceremony after.
The Princeton Community Building will be open Nov. 4 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for veterans to bring their memorabilia to be displayed.
