Eight people injured
in county collisions
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $78,825 in 10 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday at East Mulberry and North Madison Avenue, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Kamaria Mosika Smith, 26, and her passengers, Bertha Smith, 48, and Latrica Smith, 15, all of East Mulberry Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Kamaria Smith, who was going west, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The report said her car had collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle that was driven by Julie Anna Protz, 36, of McLain Street. Damages were set at $4,500.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a three-vehicle crash at 8 a.m. Tuesday at a new traffic light at U.S. 70 West and the service road, police said. Kimerly Renee Walden, 24, of Bolling Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Another motorist, Connie Ruth Kirby, 55, of Clarence Court, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The third driver was listed as Miles Dwight Wellons, 58, of Bug Shop Road, Princeton.
*A Goldsboro motorist was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-car collision at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday at North William Street and Park Avenue, police said. Julia S. Tyndall, 86, of Langston Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was going east, the report said, and her car collided with a northbound auto that was driven by Sandra Linette Gray, 46, of Dennis Drive, Princeton. Both drivers said they had the green light.
*A car was demolished at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday after it ran off the left side of Elm Street and struck two fences and two trees near Linwood Avenue, police said. The driver, Deon McLean, 20, of East Walnut Street, said he had swerved to avoid another vehicle. He was charged with driving while his license was revoked. The car was valued at $9,000. Other damages were put at $425.
*Damage was estimated at $7,000 in a one-truck wreck at 2 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117 near Country Club Road, the Highway Patrol said. The report said the pickup hydroplaned on water in the road, ran off the right side and struck a tree. The driver, Tomey Jones, 48, of Yancey Street, Warsaw, was charged with exceeding a safe speed.
*A pickup truck collided with a deer at 5:45 a.m. Monday on Grantham School Road near Waller Road and received about $6,200 in damages, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Rhonda C. Barker, 46, of Bennett Farm Lane, was neither charged nor injured.
*A car ran off the right side of Big Daddy's Road at 7:31 p.m. Saturday, then careened across the road and ran off the left side, struck a fence and overturned, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Lyneil Antonio Washington Jr., 17, of Sheridan Forest Road, was charged with failure to maintain lane control. Damages were set at $8,700.
*A driver was injured and his sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 10:50 p.m. Friday on N.C. 581 near Arrington Bridge Road, the Highway Patrol said. Gregory Lee Meacham, 26, of North Woodridge Drive, Pikeville, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where his condition was not immediately available. The SUV ran off the left side in a curve, went down a steep bank, struck a ditch and overturned in a field, the report said. Meacham was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and driving left of center. The SUV was valued at $11,000.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 11:50 p.m. Friday on Ada Stroud Road near Sanderson Road, the Highway Patrol said. Rodrigo Vasquez, 24, of Cabin Creek Drive, Seven Springs, was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The car had run off the right side, then swung across the road, ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said. Vasquez was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and driving left of center. The car, valued at $2,000, was destroyed.
*A northbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $16,000 in a two-car crash at 11:37 p.m. Friday at Wayne Memorial Drive and Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dorothy M. Fryar, 56, of Stoney Creek Church Road was released after emergency-room treatment. A westbound driver, Glynnis Gayle Barner, 22, of Antioch Road, Pikeville, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
Teen wounded
A Goldsboro teenager was shot in the leg Tuesday as he rode his bicycle in the 300 block of Freeman Street, Goldsboro police reported.
Leon Vinson Jr., 18, of South John Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Vinson told police that a white vehicle pulled alongside him and a black man rolled down a rear window and fired one shot at him. He could not describe the assailant or the car.
False pretense
A 50-year-old Dudley man was arrested Tuesday by Goldsboro police and charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
Ralph McLamb of Sleepy Creek Road was accused of passing a $2,730 check Oct. 19 at Manhattan Grocery at 901 S. Slocumb St. At the time, McLamb was fingerprinted and his identification was checked at the store, the report said. But the check was returned and marked counterfeit, the report said.
McLamb was located by the store's owner and turned over to police. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*Video-game equipment, tennis shoes and $150 were stolen Tuesday after a door and a window were damaged at a home in the 600 block of East Beech Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Angela Smith, estimated the value of the stolen property at $330 and damages at $375.
*A white, four-door 1991 Pontiac Sunbird was stolen Tuesday from the 1700 block of East Mulberry Street, police said. The owner, Jeffery Williams of Goldsboro, said the disabled car was worth $4,000.
*Tools were stolen Wednesday after a door was damaged at a vacant building at Bert Martin and Baker's Chapel Church roads, sheriff's deputies said. The owner, Bill Ray Bennett of Dudley, estimated the value of the tools at $25 and damage at $50.
