The Wayne County Sheriff's Office will offer its adopt-a-deputy program for subdivision residents in the county.

Subdivision representatives may request that deputies patrol their neighborhoods between 6 and 8 p.m. Halloween night on Monday. The deputies will volunteer their time while children are trick-or-treating.

"This is an effort by the department to make Halloween a safe and enjoyable experience for both parents and kids," Sheriff Carey Winders said.

Any neighborhood representative that wants to adopt a deputy was asked to call the Sheriff's Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at 731-1481.
