Shootings
One man was shot at, another was wounded and a home was damaged by gunfire in separate weekend incidents, according to the law-enforcement reports.
Richard Elliott, 21, of Fussell Street was walking Tuesday in the 500 block of West Oak Street, where a man fired four shots at him, according to a Goldsboro police report filed Sunday. He was not struck.
Police on Sunday attested Eric Lawson, 25, who did not disclose a home address, and charged him with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
Melvin Lee Dean, 58, was grazed in the left shoulder by a gunshot at 4:41 p.m. Friday as he was driving on N.C. 55 near Price Road, Wayne County sheriff's deputies said. Dean was treated at the scene by rescue personnel.
Gladys E. Langston reported to deputies that her home in the 100 block of Heather Glen Drive was damaged at 10 p.m. Friday by two gunshots. Damages were estimated at $500.
Fires
An industrial oven on the assembly line caught fire before dawn today at Standard Products at 308 Fedelon Trail, the Goldsboro Fire Department reported.
Assistant Fire Chief Gary Whaley said the cause of the fire had not been determined. Damage was estimated at $2,000.
The assembly line was shut down, but company officials told Whaley that it should be running later today.
Thirteen firefighters answered the 6:33 a.m. call with three engines, a ladder and a command car. They needed 64 minutes to put out the fire, investigate the cause and finish salvage work.
Meanwhile, a 1991 Honda Civic was destroyed Sunday in the 800 block of Orchard Street in a fire called suspicious by authorities. The car, valued at $2,000, was owned by Beatrice Carlisle of Dudley.
8 hurt in wrecks
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $42,300 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $21,000 in a three-car collision at 9:24 a.m. Saturday at South Andrews Avenue and East Elm Street, Goldsboro police said. Two drivers, Kay Frances Hobbs, 55, of Maple Street and Thurman McCuller, 53, of Mimosa Street, and his passenger, Anthony Rouse, 45, of Crawford Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The third driver, Colleen H. White, 42, of South Andrews Avenue, was charged with a stoplight violation. The report said Ms. White's northbound auto collided with Ms. Hobbs' westbound auto and the impact pushed Ms. White car into McCuller's stopped southbound car.
*A driver was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 4:50 p.m. Friday on North William Street near Wilson Street, police said. Amy Michelle Williams, 27, of Smith Winding Lane, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other drivers were identified as Joshua Jerome Carter, 20 of Norwayne School Road, Fremont, and Clayton Earl Williams Jr., 32, of Stagecoach Lane, Dudley. Damages were set at $1,800.
*Two people were injured in a wreck at 2:27 p.m. Friday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Northwood Drive, police said. One driver, Ruth Beatrice Stevens, 65, of Stevens Court, and her passenger, Lula S. Ward, 72, of North Beston Road, LaGrange, were released after emergency-room treatment. An unsecured tire and rim had fallen from a pickup truck and crashed into their car, the report said. The truck did not stop. Damage was put at $2,500 to the car.
*A passenger on a motorcycle was injured in a collision with a sport utility vehicle at 12:10 p.m. Friday at North Berkeley Boulevard and East Ash Street, police said. Shelia D. Bridges, 46, of Atoka, Tenn., was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, David Alan Bridges, 46, of Atoka, Tenn., had stopped for a red light, the report said. The other southbound motorist, Candice R. Porter, 25, of South Harding Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end collision.
*Damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 12:05 p.m. Friday on N.C. 581 near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Jacquelyn Joi Edmundson, 16, of East April Lane, was charged with driving left of center. The car that she was driving sideswiped a southbound van in a curve, the report said. The other motorist was listed as Donald Frederick Godwin Sr., 63, of Falcon Drive, Pikeville.
*A driver from Dudley was injured in a one-truck wreck at 9:16 p.m. Wednesday on Durham Lake Road near Sandhill Road, the Highway Patrol said. Elbert Lee Perry, 48, of Connie Walk was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in serious condition, a spokeswoman said. His pickup ran off the left side in a curve, struck a ditch, a tree and a sign, the report said. Perry was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and reckless driving. The truck, valued at $3,500, was demolished.
*A Goldsboro motorist was injured in a one-car wreck at 7:20 p.m. Thursday on Emmaus Church Road near Indian Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ivy Renee Madison, 40, of North Virginia Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with reckless driving after her car had run off the right side, careened across the road off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car, valued at $5,000, was destroyed.
Break-ins
About $8,840 worth of property was stolen Friday after a door was damaged in a home in the 2900 block of Emmaus Church Road, Wayne County sheriff's deputies reported.
One resident, Marshall Lee Hinson II, reported the theft of jewelry, video-game equipment, 160 compact discs and a surround sound system. The other resident, Staci Leigh Walden, reported the larceny of a television, jewelry, video games and two safes. Damage was set at $800.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*Stereo equipment and tools were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Blackjack Church Road, deputies said. The resident, Bobby Lee Thornton, estimated the value of the stolen property at $900 and damage at $80.
*Twenty-five rings, a necklace, a camcorder and video-game equipment were stolen Friday from a home in the 100 block of Running Deer Circle, deputies said. The resident, Renita L. Brown, put a $5,800 value on the property.
*A combination radio and compact disc player was stolen between Thursday and Sunday after a window, wiring and a vent were damaged on a motor home at Davis Auto Sales at 2092 U.S. 70 West, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $4,500. Damage was set at $1,300.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two guitars, a keyboard and $300 were stolen between Friday and Sunday after two doors were damaged at Reconciliation Church at 1427 W. Grantham St., police said. The property was valued at $425, in addition to the cash. Damages were set at $400.
*Twenty-five cases of oil were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a lock was cut at Edwards Service Station at 401 N. William St., police said. The oil was valued at $1,000. Three cases, valued at $75, were recovered.
*A television, a DVD player and DVDs, compact discs and a black light were stolen Sunday after a door was damaged at a home in the 400 block of North Jefferson Avenue, police said. The property, owned by William Monteague, was valued at $490. Damage was set at $75.
Drug charges
A 30-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Saturday night by Goldsboro police on North George Street and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug offenses.
William Scott Lutz of Woodhaven Drive was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,000 secured bond.
