4 hurt in accidents
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $65,400 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver tried to squeeze a tractor-trailer truck under the railroad bridge across North Carolina Avenue early today, but failed, causing about $30,000 in damages, Goldsboro police reported. Henry Bobby Colson, 69, of Monroe, Mich., was charged with reckless driving. Damage was estimated at $20,000 to the trailer, registered to Penlee Trucking of Cole Camp, Mo., and $10,000 to the Norfolk-Southern Railroad trestle.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $13,800 in a three-vehicle collision at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday at Sleepy Creek and Emmaus Church roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Winsor Junior Ingram, 56, and his passenger, Mary Ingram, 50, both of Emmaus Church Road, Seven Springs, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. A truck driver making a left turn -- Robert Layne Edgerton, 23, of Windy Acres Lane -- was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said the truck collided with Ingram's auto and sent Ingram's car into a stopped, sport utility vehicle that was driven by Jennifer P. Lancaster, 26, of Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville.
*A driver was injured and the car was demolished in a wreck at 8:15 a.m. Monday on U.S. 13 near Overman Road, the Highway Patrol said. Helga Almaroni Bryant, 17, of Grantham School Road was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with improper passing. The report said Ms. Bryant was passing two cars that had started to pass a slow-moving truck. The two cars completed their maneuver, but Ms. Bryant, the report said, swerved to the right to avoid an oncoming car and lost control of the car that she was driving, and the auto ran off the road sideways, struck a mail box and a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $5,000.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 2:05 p.m. Monday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Nadine Cole Paul, 47, of N.C. 55 East, Seven Springs, was released after emergency-room treatment. Sarai Delarosa, 20, of Irene Reyes Lane, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation. Damages were set at $3,600.
*Damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-truck wreck at 3 a.m. Saturday on Outlaw Road near Emmaus Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dwayne Edward Rodgers, 43, of Kornegay Drive, Dudley, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his pickup ran off the right side and overturned in a field, the report said.
*Damage was put at $8,000 in a one-truck crash at 3:49 a.m. Saturday on Hood Swamp Road near Mark Edwards Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Christina May Pace, 20, of Dosia Drive, was charged with driving while impaired, driving after drinking under age, exceeding a safe speed and driving left of center. The report said the pickup ran off the right side, then the driver overcorrected the steering, and the truck ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned.
Forgery charges
A 26-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with six felony offenses -- three counts of forgery and uttering.
Jeffery David Jones of Rose Street was accused of stealing checks from his father, forging them and passing them at Goldsboro banks, Investigator Mike Moore said. Jones was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
Break-ins
Two buildings were broken into Thursday off N.C. 111 South, and tools and other property were stolen, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Hand tools, a circular saw and a rechargeable drill were stolen from a garage in the 200 block of Spring Creek Drive. The thief had damaged a door and padlock to get inside, the report said. The resident, L.L. Hughes, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,600 and damages at $505.
Three fishing poles, a chain saw, a weed trimmer and an electric drill were stolen after a padlock was cut and stolen from a barn in the 400 block of Old N.C. 111. The resident, Ronald L. Scheier, estimated the stolen property's value at $1,455.
House fire
A pile of clothes was set on fire Thursday night, and the blaze destroyed a vacant cinderblock home at 144 Cobb Coley Lane, officials said.
Mar Mac, Thoroughfare and Dudley volunteer firefighters answered the 8:45 p.m. call and put out the fire. Department officials then turned over a further investigation of the fire to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The dilapidated home had no power and was valued at $2,000, the report said. The owner's identity had not been determined.
Ring stolen
A wedding ring and a checkbook were stolen Thursday after a door was damaged at a mobile home in the 500 block of 11th Street, Goldsboro police reported. The resident, Cordell Amerson, put a $412 value on his stolen property. Damage was set at $25.
