MOUNT OLIVE -- Those who attend the holiday open house in downtown Mount Olive this fall will have a map to direct them to participating merchants.

Organizers of the holiday open house set for Nov. 17 are arranging for each participating business owner to have luminaries leading to the door and a color-coded spot on the map. Colors will be assigned to different types of businesses, like a restaurant or a retail shop or even a business office.

Promotions Committee Chairman Patsy Joyner of the Small Town project said signs directing people to the participating businesses and bumper stickers will be another new addition to the open house this fall.

She said when the signs are completed, the Promotions Committee will turn them over to the Design Committee to be coordinated into an overall plan for placement giving directions to and around the Heart of Mount Olive during the open house.

A noon fashion show will kick off the open house at the Center Street Bistro.

The participants will keep their businesses open until 8 p.m. that night and give away things like Christmas candy and mints. The plan is for everybody to play Christmas music. Santa Claus will set up shop in front of the office of the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce.

Youth choirs will be invited to come caroling.

The town might even light its Christmas lights during the open house.
