Flooded roads in Duplin reopened

KENANSVILLE -- Duplin Emergency Services Director Craig Forlines said this morning all the roads closed due to flooding over the weekend have been reopened.
Deep Bottom Road and Durwoood Evans Road were open to drivers this morning.
Duplin emergency officials decided to open N.C. 50 in the Mill Swamp area of Duplin County between George Dunn Sholar Road and Maready Road, although it had water on it this morning. They determined the water was low enough for drivers to cross.
In Pender County, the only road that is still closed is N.C. 53 from Shaw Road to N.C. 50, a Pender Sheriff's Office dispatcher said.
The water level situation in Pender has improved, and the dispatcher said Pender will be all right until the river crests. The Lower East Cape Fear River is expected to crest sometime this week.
Up to 15 inches of rain since Wednesday poured into local rivers and lakes in eastern North Carolina, which were still swollen from swallowing the rains from Hurricane Ophelia last month. The additional water caused flooding across the region, with some of the worst in the Wilmington area, specifically New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties.
