Information sessions for 50-and-over population scheduled

A series of informative sessions for people age 50 and older will be held beginning Thursday. They are sponsored by Services on Aging, the city of Goldsboro, the county of Wayne, Volunteer Wayne/RSVP, WAGES older adult division, Wayne County Public Library, Wayne Community College and Wayne Memorial Hospital.
They include:
*Family Love Letter -- Essential Information in Time of Confusion will be presented Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wayne Community College's room 104 of the Walnut Building.
It will address a broad range of planning topics and provide a blueprint for organizing now so loved ones will be guided by your wishes later. The resulting "family love letter" is designed to reduce stress, confusion and mistakes that often occur in times of turmoil.

*The Open Road -- America Looks at Aging to be presented Oct. 19 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium of the library.
The first wave of 77 million baby boomers turns 60 next year. The documentary film, "The Open Road," examines the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for individuals and society as they undergo the largest demographic transformation in American history.

*Advance Directives -- Let Your Wishes Be Known will be presented Nov. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. in Wayne Community College's Moffatt Auditorium.
Everyone needs to be prepared for difficult and complex medical decisions concerning the end of life. This session will provide the basics of "advance directives," which are written documents designed to allow competent patients the opportunity to guide future health care decisions in the event they are unable to do so themselves.
Dr. Ellen Brubeck, a family practice physician with a special interest in the care of older adults and end-of-life issues, will lead the session.
