2 men charged
in drug trafficking
Two men were arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with felony drug trafficking offenses after a traffic stop in the New Hope community and the search of a home on Nick Drive.
The resident, Rigoberto Rosales-Villa, 29, and Fermin Ramirez, 32, of Wilson were placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $1 million secured bonds.
Cocaine, with an estimated street value of $50,800, and two vehicles were seized during the investigation.
Rosales-Villa was charged with trafficking in cocaine by sale, trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by delivery and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine.
Ramirez was charged with trafficking in cocaine by sale, trafficking in cocaine by possession, trafficking in cocaine by delivery, trafficking in cocaine by transportation and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine.
The Drug Squad was assisted by officers from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office's patrol division and warrant squad and the Goldsboro Police Department's patrol division.
6 hurt in wrecks
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $12,700 in four traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A passenger was injured in a two-car wreck at 1:30 a.m. Thursday on East Holly Street near North Taylor Street, Goldsboro police said. Blanche Pollock, 84, of South Andrews Avenue was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Her driver, Raymond Christopher Pollock, 50, of South Andrews Avenue, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The eastbound car that Pollock was driving collided with a westbound auto that was operated by Taniko Upton, 30, of North Alabama Avenue. Damages were put at $2,500.
*Three people were injured in a two-car collision at 7:48 p.m. Thursday at Herman and East Mulberry streets, police said. One driver, Evelyn W. Pulliam, 58, and her passenger, Patrick Divers, 10, both of East Walnut Street, and the other driver, Donise Marie Thompson, 44, of Woodside Circle, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Pulliam, who was going west, was charged with a stoplight violation. Ms. Thompson was traveling south. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A driver was injured in a two-car crash at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Cox Boulevard, police said. Stephanie Dawn Padgett, 20, of Party Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other southbound motorist was listed as Felecia Ray Bryant, 24, of Brentwood Drive. Damages were estimated at $3,000.
*A driver was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 8:50 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 117 near O'Berry Road, the Highway Patrol said. Dimitrice Monek Williams, 22, of Heather Glen Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with a lane-control violation. The southbound car, the report said, ran off the left side into the median, the driver overcorrected the steering and the car ran off the right side, striking two trees. The car was valued at $3,200.
Man wounded
A man from Dudley was wounded accidentally Thursday as he checked another man's firearm in the Impulse parking lot, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, Glenn Heffner, 53, of Potts Road, was rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition, a spokeswoman said.
The report said Heffner had been asked by Robert Whitfield, 57, of Duck Ridge Drive, Pikeville, to look at his gun because it was not working. Heffner was holding the holster in his left hand when the gun discharged, the report said.
Child abuse
A 34-year-old Goldsboro woman was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.
Soraida Marie Franco of Devonshire Drive was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.
Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom said the 14-year-old victim had been severely injured with an electrical cord that caused bruises and cuts.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A woman left a vehicle running Thursday night when she stopped to pick up a pizza at Brooklyn Pizzeria at 912 N. Spence Ave., police said. When Deborah Mercedes Arche of Slick Rock Road returned five minutes later, the 2004 black Jeep Cherokee was gone. The vehicle, valued at $16,000, was owned by Kelly Jean Doss of Slock Rock Road. Ms. Arche also reported the theft of a pistol, a cell phone, a backpack and a wallet with personal papers. Her property was valued at $330.
*An IBM laptop computer was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from an office at Franklin Bakery at 400 W. Holly St., police said. The laptop was valued at $2,000.
*An estimated $904 worth of property was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a Goldsboro Parks and Recreation Department truck at 903 E. Ash St., police said. The property included tools, a volt meter, two socket sets, a cordless drill and bits, and a tool bag.
