Princeton board hears four-lot annexation plan

PRINCETON -- Four lots, totaling about an acre, could be annexed by Princeton as soon as next month.
No one spoke Monday night on the proposed annexations during the town's board's monthly meeting.
Mayor Don Rains explained that the properties were either touching the existing town limits or were surrounded by the town.
The four properties are owned by:
*Oscar Jones at 601 W. First St.
*Joyce Langston at 501 N. Pearl St.
*Bob Shuman at 104 Azalea Drive.
*Princeton Chapel Church of Christ at 605 W. First St.
Jones already thought he was in the town, said Police Chief Eddie Lewis. Jones complained Monday about a wild dog on his property and called for police help. Lewis told Jones that he was outside the town limits. The chief said Jones then called the county and was told that his property was served by Princeton police, fire, rescue and water.
Lewis said that when Jones called back, he went to the home, noted the problem, set out a trap and caught the dog. The chief said he was waiting for a Johnston County animal control officer to pick up the animal.
Town Clerk Marla Ashworth said the three private properties would generate about $700 in taxes for Princeton. The church would not pay taxes.
Rains said the town had held a special informational meeting Sept. 19 for those affected by the proposed statutory annexations. Jones reportedly said he would contest the town's takeover.
The town board will discuss the ordinance to annex the properties at its Nov. 7 meeting.
