5 people injured
in three assaults
Five Goldsboro residents were injured Wednesday in three assaults, according to Goldsboro police reports.
Three teenagers were wounded during a drive-by shooting at about 11:40 p.m. in a parking lot in the 600 block of East Elm Street. The three were rushed by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Eric Donta Covington, 17, of Benton Street, was listed today in stable condition, a spokeswoman said. Treshon M. Faison, 16, of West Chestnut Street, and Mileek Hakeene Oates, 17, of Beal Street were treated for their injuries and released.
The assailant shot from a moving car, the report said, but was not described.
Another victim, Val Rico Fuller, 28, of West Spruce Street, was walking at about 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of West Grantham Street and was shot by someone in a dark car.
Fuller was taken to the hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition. He could not describe the assailant.
In the day's first assault, Lateryka Denise Sanders, 21, told police that she had tried to break up a fight at about 1:45 p.m. in her backyard on Olivia Lane. She said a black woman struck her on the head with a wooden table leg.
Ms. Sanders was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released. The assailant was described as being about 21 and 5-feet-4 with a medium to heavy build.
Drug charge
FREMONT -- A 46-year-old Fremont man was arrested Wednesday by Fremont police on East Main Street and charged with a felony drug violation and three traffic offenses.
Dewayne Jones of South Sycamore Street was charged with possession of cocaine, no operator's license, no liability insurance and fictitious registration. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
Collisions
Damages were estimated at $20,700 in two recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Damages were estimated at $13,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday at Old Mount Olive and Genoa roads, the Highway Patrol said. The report said an unknown southbound vehicle was turning from the left turn lane on Old Mount Olive Road. A northbound driver, Andrietta Soares, 25, of Cashwell Drive, swerved to the left out of control to avoid the turning vehicle, the report said, but her rental car collided with a southbound pickup truck. The other driver was identified as Jerry Chester Thompson, 54, of Grantham School Road. The unknown driver could not be found. No charges were filed.
*Damages were set at $7,200 in a three-vehicle crash at 6:22 p.m. Sept. 13 on N.C. 111 near Church of God Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Laura W. Fail, 61, of Lancaster Road, Pikeville, was charged with driving left of center. The report said a tire blew on Ms. Fail's southbound car and the auto crossed the center line and struck two northbound vehicles, a pickup truck pulling a trailer and a sport utility vehicle. The pickup was driven by Timothy Wayne Holloman, 41, of Faro Road, Fremont, and the SUV was driven by Regina Ann Rugkit, 22, of Davis Mill Road, Fremont.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A safe with an unknown amount of money was stolen Wednesday after a garage door window was broken at Toyota of Goldsboro at 301 N. Oak Forest Road, Goldsboro police said. The safe was valued at $2,500. Damage was set at $100.
*Two shotguns and a rifle were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Race Track Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Glenn Pyle, estimated the value of the weapons at $900 and damages at $20.
*Seven clippers, video-game equipment, compact discs and shoes were stolen Wednesday after a window was smashed in an apartment in the 600 block of South Randolph Street, police said. The resident, Lawrence Bogier III, put a $1,008 value on the stolen property. No damage estimate was listed.
*A weed trimmer was stolen between Sept. 15 and Wednesday after a door was damaged on a shed in the 200 block of North Kornegay Avenue, police said. The resident, Morris Eakins, said the weed trimmer was worth $250. Damage was put at $5.
Two charges
A resident came home Wednesday, saw a man inside and detained him until Wayne County sheriff's deputies arrived and arrested the intruder.
Joseph William Martikke, who lives on U.S. 13 North, told deputies that someone had entered his unlocked home between Tuesday and Wednesday and had stolen two handguns. The weapons were valued at $450.
Deputies charged a neighbor, Christopher Ryan Newsome, 29, of U.S. 13 North, with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
