Man robbed
A man was assaulted and robbed Thursday of $120, a cell phone, a wallet and personal papers in the 700 block of Randolph Street, Goldsboro police reported.
Treaver Vontroy Newsome, 35, of Dudley told officers that he had given a man a ride from a convenience store on Elm Street to Randolph Street. When Newsome stopped, the rider got out and another man jumped in the back seat and struck Newsome twice in the head with a handgun, the report said.
The armed suspect demanded Newsome's property, grabbed it and fled north in a four-door car, the report said. The stolen property was valued at $125, in addition to the cash.
The gunman and the rider were described as black and about 35 years old. The gunman also was described as 6-feet and 230 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. He wore a gray T-shirt and shorts.
Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to call police at 705-6572 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
6 hurt in wrecks
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $25,600 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Damages were estimated at $11,200 in an accident between a pickup truck and a farm tractor at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 13 near Gainey Drive, the Highway Patrol said. The driver of the pickup, Harold Blount Arthur, 80, of U.S. 13 South, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The tractor was driven by William Lester McKeel, 43, of N.C. 111 North for David Carroll Britt Services of Dunn.
*A driver from Pikeville was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Charles B. Aycock High School parking lot, the Highway Patrol said. Michelle D. Barefoot, 33, of Crossbow Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Another driver, Stella H. Farmer, 76, of Saratoga Street, Stantonsburg, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end crash. The third motorist was identified as Debra Diane Smith, 50, of U.S. 117 North. Damages were set at $3,100.
*Three people were injured in a two-car collision at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday at Indian Springs and Broadhurst roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Jorge Soler Rodriguez, 25, of Camp Jubilee Road, and the other driver, Jeffrey Ray Jackson, 21, and his passenger, Amanda Doyon, 19, both of Sanderson Road, Seven Springs, were released after emergency-room treatment. Rodriguez, who was going south, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign after the collision with the westbound auto. Damages were put at $3,800.
*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle wreck at 8:26 p.m. Monday at N.C. 111 and Pineview Cemetery Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Mandy Maria Hines, 28, and her passenger, Dillon Brown, 11, both of Adams Road, Seven Springs, were released after emergency-room treatment. A northbound motorist, Nelson Omar R. Gonzalez, 24, of Sandspur Drive, Mount Olive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. Ms. Hines had stopped to make a left turn, the report said.
Mobile home fire
A man forgot about a pot of grease that he was heating for french fries Thursday, returned to the kitchen and found the stove, microwave and cabinets on fire in his home at 2546 Old Mount Olive Road.
But Lorenzo Peacock put out the fire with a pan of water, said Dudley Volunteer Fire Chief Kendall Lee.
"It could have been worse," Lee said. "He was very lucky."
Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the new double-wide mobile home that was valued at $80,000. Dudley and Mar Mac volunteers responded to the 3:15 p.m. call.
Wanted
A 53-year-old woman is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on charges of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Phyllis Boyer, whose last-known address was on Peggy Lane, was described only as white. Anyone with information on her location was asked to call Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour at 731-1497 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
School break-in
Four young teenagers have confessed to breaking into Rosewood Middle School and stealing two game footballs, 40 bottles of a sports drink and a stop watch, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The suspects, who were not identified because of their ages, had broken a door glass between Sept. 2 and Thursday to get inside. Damage was estimated at $200. The suspects will be charged in juvenile petitions. Some of the stolen property, valued at $130, has been recovered.
Gun, coin theft
A .22 caliber handgun and about $100 in coins were stolen Thursday from a home on the 900 block of North Center Street, Goldsboro police said.
The thief had inflicted about $20 in damages to a window to get inside. The resident, Elroy Graham, said the handgun was worth $50.
