After-school programs offered

Wayne County 4-H is accepting enrollments for its after-school programs in elementary and middle schools.
The programs are designed to enrich children's lives educationally, socially, culturally, emotionally and physically while also providing a safe and familiar setting, said Polly Allegra, the program's coordinator. The programs provide hands-on learning, life skills training and community service opportunities.
The programs, held during the week from 3-6 p.m., are run by 4-H staff members who have training in first aid, CPR, basic school age care, asset building, monthly curriculum planning and storytelling.
According to the National Institute on Out-Of-School Time, there are about 49 million children ages 6 through 17 in the U.S. who don't have any regular after-school care.
