From staff reports

About 125 airmen from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base left Saturday for Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans.

The airmen will join several hundred airmen from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., and Moody Air Force Base, Ga., to create the 4th Air Expeditionary Group. The 4th group will be responsible for operating and supporting the airport, and supporting humanitarian relief efforts.

Part of the relief efforts include providing food, water and 24-hour lodging for up to 4,500 people that will be housed in a tent city at the airport. The airmen will also expand field operations, making it capable of supporting up to six cargo planes at the same time.

The Seymour Johnson airmen, who represent various squadrons in the 4th Mission Support Group, the 4th Operations Group, and the 4th Fighter Wing staff agencies, will be in New Orleans for 45 to 60 days.
