Communities In Schools' "Stuff the Bus" campaign is scheduled for Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Spence Market at the corner of Spence and Royall avenues.

The purpose of the campaign is to collect school supplies to be given to students who do not have the tools they need to succeed. This is an opportunity to help children and families whose resources will not allow them to provide all the necessary supplies, said Sudie Davis, executive director of Communities in Schools.

The campaign is part of the "School Stuff" campaign, with supplies to be distributed to Wayne County Public Schools. Local corporate sponsors for the drive at the UPS Store and SunCom.

Last year was the first local effort to "stuff the bus," said Mrs. Davis. She said she hopes this year's effort will top last year's.

"We have never been able to fill all of the requests made by the schools, and we know the needs are there," she said. "We would love to report to the community that every school received the items requested for their students."

Backpacks, crayons, binders, composition notebooks, and facial tissues are things that Communities In Schools can always use to meet the requests received from the schools, Mrs. Davis said. Pencils, filler paper, colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, and erasers are high request items.

If donors are not able to make it for the "Stuff the Bus" day, school supplies can still be dropped off at SunCom on Berkeley Blvd, The UPS Store on Cashwell Dr., Wayne County Public Schools Administrative Office on Royall Avenue, or the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce on William Street.
