Sexual battery
charged
Lonnie Casey Jr. was arrested Sunday night by Goldsboro police and charged with three misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.
Casey, 62, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. He later posted bond and was released from custody.
Casey was accused of fondling women who live in his Casey's Trailer Lodge at 1700 S. Slocumb St.
Two wounded
Two people were wounded early Sunday in a drive-by shooting in the 100 block of Miller's Chapel Road, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Roderic Mitchel Blount, 22, of Goldsboro was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Dojna Sanquisha Nicole Jackson, 15, of Goldsboro was treated and released.
They said they were standing near a car outside of a party at about 2:20 a.m. when a small burgundy car drove by and someone fired shots in their direction. Blount was struck in the arm, and Ms. Jackson was struck in the head. They could not describe the assailants.
Driver caught
A driver wanted for questioning by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in connection with a shots-fired call was captured Sunday night after a brief chase.
Leroy Huey Breland, 53, of Grantham School Road, Mount Olive, did not stop for a deputy's blue lights and siren during an investigation of the call on Grantham School Road. Breland threw a handgun from his pickup truck during the chase. He was apprehended at U.S. 117 South and U.S. 117 Alternate, the report said.
Breland was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, driving while impaired, possession of stolen goods and resisting arrest. He refused a breath-analysis test, the citation said. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 secured bond.
Robbery try
A 33-year-old man said two black men tried to rob and assault him before dawn Sunday and then damaged the windshield on his truck, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Hector Raul Robles of Goldsboro told deputies that the suspects did not get any money but did inflict about $200 in damages to the windshield.
Robles said he was sitting in the truck at about 2:15 a.m. in the 200 block of Woodland Church Road, where the suspects pulled up alongside him, the report said. Then the two suspects twice demanded his wallet, but Robles said he did not have one. One suspect then reached into the truck and swung at Robles, but he ducked out of the way, the report said. One robber then struck his windshield, and both fled.
One suspect wore a black T-shirt, but no other descriptions were available.
Drink can causes
two-car wreck
A drink can slipped under the brake pedal of a car, the driver lost control of the auto Sunday and it swerved into another car at a gas pump, Goldsboro police said.
The driver, Esmeralda Ruiz Hernandez, 24, of Buddy Boy Lane, Seven Springs, said the light was red on U.S. 70, and when she tried to brake, the drink can slipped under the brake pedal, and she tried to swerve through the gas station parking lot, the report said.
At the same time, Richard David Rouse, 23, of Paul's Path Road, LaGrange, was getting back into his car after pumping gas at 2:48 p.m. at the Chevron service station at 4340 U.S. 70 East, the report said. But the out-of-control car, driven by Ms. Hernandez, knocked Rouse from his car and forced his car to roll back into the gas pumps.
Rouse was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Ms. Hernandez was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were estimated at $9,000.
In other accidents:
*Two people were injured and both vehicles were demolished in a wreck at 6:49 p.m. Friday on U.S. 117 near Airport Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Darryl Maurice Newsome, 22, of Johnston Street, Fremont, and his passenger, Cemilia Hayes, 21, of Atlantic Avenue, were released after emergency-room treatment. Newsome was charged with driving left of center. The report said his northbound car hydroplaned out of control on the wet road and spun into a southbound pickup truck, driven by Michael Dale Martin, 43, of Vinwood Avenue. The vehicles were valued at $8,500.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday on Old Mount Olive Road near U.S. 117, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Latasha B. Dudley, 32, and her passengers, Jazzlynn Dudley, 13, and Lateifah Ingram, 14, all of Brentwood Drive, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Robin Linette Casey, 31, of Wildwood Drive, was charged with a yield violation. Damages were put at $4,300.
*Two people were injured in a one-car wreck at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday on Casey Mill Road near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Charles Eugene Bartlett, 38, and his passenger, Jonathan M. Bartlett, 17, both of Caves Cove Place, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. The driver said he was forced off the road and the southbound rental car struck a ditch and overturned, the report said. Damage was set at $2,800.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A cassette tape and compact disc player combination, a watch, food and $17 were stolen between Friday and Sunday after a door was damaged at a mobile home in the 100 block of Jake Drive, deputies said. The resident, Adimida Rodriguez, said the stolen property was worth more than $60.
*A blue riding lawn mower was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from the 100 block of Scott Drive, deputies said. The resident, R.S. Hamilton, put a $2,300 value on the mower.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A laptop computer, a radar detector, a cell phone, 12 compact discs, DVDs and cosmetics were stolen Sunday from a car in the 2200 block of East Ash Street, police said. Amanda Renee Harrison of Pikeville put a $1,230 value on the laptop and the DVDs. The car owner, Angela Christine Hill of Goldsboro, said the other property was worth more than $160.
*A black, four-door 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo was stolen between Tuesday and Sunday from the 500 block of North William Street, police said. The owner, John Tyler Benton of Goldsboro, said the vehicle was worth $1,500.
Drug charges
A 24-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Sunday by Goldsboro police and charged with possession of drugs in the Wayne County Jail.
Michael Chiyo Butler of Courtyard Circle was arrested an hour earlier by police on West Walnut Street and charged with not having an operator's license and fictitious registration. He also was held on a charge of second-degree trespass. Butler was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of two secured bonds totaling $5,800.
