Deborah Jones

Lt. Col. Deborah R. Jones retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service.

A retirement ceremony was held on Aug. 5 at the Women in Military Service for American Memorial in Arlington, Va.

Her last assignment was at, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. As the Associate Chief, Education and Training Division, she recommended and executed education and training policy for the Air Force Medical Service (AFS) including AFSC awarding and graduate educational programs.

She holds bachelor and master of science degrees in nursing and is certified in nursing administration by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

She is married to retired Lt. Col. Drussell Jones and they have one son and two grandchildren. Her local relatives include her mother, Nancy Richardson; three siblings, Sharon, Betty and Anthony Richardson; and three aunts, Ada Herron, Rosa Wooten and retired Lt. Col. Minnie Beverly.

Chandra Davis

E2 Chandra Davis completed basic Army Training at Fort Jackson, S.C., on July 29, and is stationed at Fort Lee Army Base in Virginia, where she is enrolled in Advanced Individual Training (AIT).

A 2004 graduate of Golds-boro High School, she is the daughter of Renee and Laymond Bratcher and the granddaughter of Carolyn Davis of Currie. Her brother, Airman Rashied Green is stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

James Casey

James C. Casey joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program and reported to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., for active duty.

He is the son of Kimberly S. Casey of Pikeville and James D. Casey of Lucama.

Joshua Barfield

Joshua B. Barfield joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program. The program and will report for active duty on Sept. 6 at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.,

Barfield is a 2002 graduate of North Lenoir High School, LaGrange, and is the son of Earlene H. Maxwell of Seven Springs and Larry U. Barfield of Kinston.

Sean Talbot

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Sean T. Talbot, son of Diane Chester of Bohemia, N. Y. and Michael Talbot of Mount Olive, recently graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power Training Program while assigned as a student to Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

During the program, Talbot received basic and hands-on training in the operation of a nuclear reactor and earned the qualification of nuclear operator.

LaDon Thompson

Marine Corps Staff Sgt. LaDon D. Thompson, son of Phyllis S. Thompson and Donnie R. Thompson, both of Goldsboro, and the Marines of the Anti-Terrorism Battalion, home based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., are in the middle of a scheduled deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sgt. Thompson is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School of Goldsboro.

Fredrick Thompson

Navy Hospitalman Fredrick R. Thompson, son of Connie and Ervine Thompson of Goldsboro, recently graduated from the Basic Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the 14-week course, Thompson learned a wide range of medical procedures used to provide first aid and assist Navy doctors and nurses. He also received an introductory instruction for service in a variety of medical environments, from fleet hospitals and shipboard medical departments to flee Marine forces and medical administration offices.

In addition, Thompson re-enlisted for two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy.

He is a 2001 graduate of Goldsboro High School of Goldsboro.

Bobby L. Benson

Air Force Airman 1st Class Bobby L. Benson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and revived physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, he earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is a 2004 graduate of Charles B. Aycock and the son of James and Susan Benson of Pikeville and the grandson of John and Dorothy Basden of Dudley.
