Foundation offers class on Film Noir

The Foundation of Wayne Community College will offer a lecture course entitled "Film Noir: Hollywood's Dark Side."
Arts and Humanities Program Director Bill Brettmann will lead the four-week course. It will meet 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Aug. 24 in Room 201 of the Dogwood Building on the college's main campus in Goldsboro.
Cost for the course is $20 for individuals and $35 for couples. The textbook, "A Panorama of American Film Noir: 1941-1953" by Raymond Borde and Etienne Charenton, may be purchased for $16.95 from the college bookstore.
Three classic films, "The Maltese Falcon" (1941); "The Killer" (1946), based on Hemingway's short story of that title; and "The Big Sleep" (1946), with a screenplay by William Faulkner, will be shown and discussed during the course.

The Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to promote and to broaden the base of community support for educational opportunities at Wayne Community College. In addition to bringing programs such as this one to the community, the foundation helps students through scholarships -- 236 scholarships worth nearly $157,500 during the past academic year.
