Law enforcement class graduates

Wayne Community College graduated its 46th Basic Law Enforcement Training class during ceremonies last week. The 13 cadets who completed the college's academy received certificates to work as sworn law enforcement officers in North Carolina.
Certificates were conferred on Stephen M. Anderson, Michael T. Gray, David C. Taggart, David J. Webber, and LeAnn M. Young of Goldsboro; Hunter C. Martin of Mount Olive; Nelson E. Artis and James C. Serlick of Pikeville; Ashley Q. Woodard of Princeton; Michael A. Blackmer of Smithfield; Weston J. Samuels of Selma; Todd A. Jarvis of Kinston; and Matthew R. Sasser of La Grange.
Woodard earned valedictorian honors.
Gray earned the highest average score in firearms training and was presented the "Top Gun" award by Capt. Willie Brinson of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, an instructor in the program.
Cadets complete 48-50 hours of handgun and shotgun work in both the classroom and on the firing range.
The Physical Training Award went to Serlick.
