Board of Election appointments

The North Carolina State Board of Elections has given official notice of appointments to the Wayne County Board of Elections.
Returning to the board are Joe Daughtery for his third term and Chester Beverly for his second term.
Elections Board Director Gary Sims said the board also welcomes a new member, Gene Riddle, who will be replacing Geof Hulse.
The new board will meet no later than Aug. 22 to organize and select the board chairman and secretary. Notice of the organizational meeting will be given upon establishing the date.
Sims said several people have asked him about the Eureka races. Nobody filed to run for municipal offices before the filing period ended at noon Friday.
He said non-partisan contests on the ballot with and without candidates have write-in spots equal to the number of candidates to be elected. He said in the event that there are contests without candidates, the voters can write-in their choice.
