Embezzlement at Officer's Club
Cheryl Lewis McKnight of Pinemont Circle was arrested Friday by Goldsboro Police and charged with embezzlement. Ms. McKnight is accused of taking money from the Officer's Club on Seymour Johnson Air Force Base while she worked there as the club accountant. Investigators from the 4th Security Squadron and AFOSI assisted police in the investigation. Ms. McKnight was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond.
Man charged with stealing food at restaurant
Employees at the Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse Restaurant on Berkeley Boulevard got fed up this week with a man getting a bellyful of food without paying for it. The workers told police that 45-year-old Anthony Morris Herring had come in the restaurant before and walked out with a plate of food. This time, they called the law. Herring, who allegedly took $7.26 worth of food, has been charged with defrauding an innkeeper. He has a $400 bond.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*An employee at NAPA Auto Parts told police that an unknown black male in his 20s took two amplifiers, valued at $223, from the store around 3 p.m. Friday. The suspect left the store and ran east on Ash Street with the merchandise.
*Cindy Rodgers told police that someone removed half a tank of gas, worth $15, from her 1993 Ford Escort. Ms. Rodgers had last used the car on July 29, and when she went to drive it again on Friday, there was no gas in the vehicle.
*Four semi-automatic handguns, worth $575, were taken from a residence on Greenleaf Street. The handguns were last seen at the residence by the owner on July 27.
*Katrina Hardy said that someone stole baby clothes from her clothesline for the second time. Ms. Hardy told police that she didn't report it the first time. Three baby outfits, valued at $30, were taken off the line at her residence on Hollowell Street.
*An employee at Eckerd Drug Store on Ash Street discovered a counterfeit $20 bill in the cash register and reported it to police.
*Theresa Lou Dennins, 31, of Selah Church Road said she was attacked by someone she knew. The suspect hit her on the side of her head with a computer keyboard, she said, and then took her ATM card to buy $450 worth of items from the Internet. Ms. Dennins told deputies that she would take a warrant out on the suspect.
