Bond set for murder suspect

A $350,000 secured bond has been set for a Goldsboro man charged with first-degree murder. But Leandren Andre Wilson, 28, of North Kornegay Street remains in the Wayne County Jail.
The bond was set by Judge Jerry Braswell of Goldsboro during a recent brief hearing in Wayne County Superior Court. Braswell had ruled previously in another hearing that Wilson would not face the death penalty.
Wilson's next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 15.
Wilson was accused of murdering Corry Lavon Grantham, 26, of Nor-Am Road, Pikeville, on July 11, 2004.
Grantham's body was found early July 11 near Corporate Drive and Clingman Street. A security guard at a nearby night club told police he had heard gunshots from outside of the west side of the club, then responded, saw a crowd gather around the body and called police.
Police interviewed witnesses at the night club, and with that information, they developed Wilson as a suspect. Later, they obtained a warrant for Wilson's arrest.
Wilson's photograph appeared the next day in The News-Argus. Two days later, a confidential informant, carrying a copy of the newspaper, called Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers and said Wilson was in Benson.
Benson police Detective Sarah Wilson then notified Goldsboro police that Wilson might be in her city. She requested a photograph of the suspect. After receiving the photo, she contacted Goldsboro police Investigator W.P. VanWijk and said Wilson was in custody.
VanWijk and Assistant Special Agent in Charge John Rea of the State Bureau of Investigation went to Benson and brought Wilson to Goldsboro, where he was placed in jail without bond.
Wilson was indicted in February by the Wayne County Grand Jury on a charge of first-degree murder and habitual felon status.
