Wayne nurses earn spots on Great 100 list

Two nurses from Wayne Memorial Hospital have been named to the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina list for 2005.
Debbie Phillips, RN, MSN, and Jennifer Thompson, RN, BSN, will be officially recognized at a Great 100 Gala in September.
Ms. Phillips is administrative director of adult health and Ms. Thompson is the supervisor of perioperative care services.
The Great 100, Inc. is a grassroots peer recognition organization honoring the nursing profession in North Carolina. Its purpose is to recognize the importance of registered nurses in diverse practice settings, positively support the image of nursing as a profession, acknowledge nurses in the state who demonstrate excellence in practice and commitment to their profession and contribute funds for scholarships for registered nurse education.
To earn a spot on the prestigious list, candidates are first nominated by nursing peers and department managers and then screened by a professional standards committee. Wayne Memorial has had several nurses recognized as part of the Great 100 in the past, averaging two or three each year.
Karen Southard, interim vice-president of patient services, commended this year's honorees from the hospital.
"We are very proud of them for all that they do for patients here at Wayne Memorial Hospital -- always showing compassion and professionalism," she said.
"The fact that we always have nurses included on this speaks very well for the quality and dedication represented throughout our entire nursing staff."
