sentenced
Three teenage brothers, including two twins, have been sentenced in Wayne County Superior Court after pleading guilty to assaulting a man on Nick Drive in New Hope.
Josh Scott Lane, 19, and twins Justin Allen Lane, 17, and Preston Lee Lane, 17, all of Eva's Lane, Stantonsburg, were sentenced to 11 to 14 months in prison on felony charges of assault inflicting serious injury.
The three were accused of entering a home Feb. 11 and severely beating the resident. The victim, Richard Reese, underwent surgery for his injuries and was released later from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Sheriff's detectives had said the assault stemmed from an earlier argument between rival groups.
The three also had been indicted on first-degree burglary charges that were dropped.
Scooters stolen
A 22-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Thursday and charged with offenses in connection with the theft of a motorcycle and two scooters from a Goldsboro business, Goldsboro police reported.
Mack Recardo Lewis of Slaughter Street was charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
Lewis was accused of throwing a brick through the front-door glass at WMS Motorsports Sales and Service at 3708-A E. Ash St. between Wednesday and Thursday and stealing the three vehicles, Housing Authority Officer Mike Green said. The vehicles, valued at $2,997, were recovered. Damage to the door was set at $250.
Fairview theft
Three teenagers were arrested Thursday by Goldsboro police and charged with offenses in connection with a break-in and theft a day earlier from the Fairview Community Center at 1906 Edgerton St.
Tyree Resean Davis, 16, of Taylor Street was charged with breaking and entering and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond. The other teens were juveniles and not identified because of their age.
More than $3,000 worth of stolen property has been recovered, Housing Authority Officer Thomas Collins said.
Drivers hurt
Both drivers were injured and both cars were demolished in a collision at 4:48 p.m. Thursday on North Berkeley Boulevard near New Hope Road, Goldsboro police said.
Brittany Shakata Lewis, 16, of Baden Court and Boyzell Johnson, 54, of Dixie Trail were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Ms. Lewis was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Lewis said someone waved her on to cross North Berkeley Boulevard and the car that she was driving collided with a southbound auto. Johnson was charged with driving while his license was revoked and suspicion of driving while impaired. The autos were valued at $9,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Graffiti was sprayed on a vacant home in the 4100 block of Indian Springs Road between Wednesday and Thursday, deputies said. Damage was put at $2,000. Three no-trespassing signs, valued at $20, also were stolen. A headstone in a nearby cemetery also was spray-painted, the report said.
*Seven windows were smashed, probably with bricks, between Wednesday and Thursday at a home under construction in the 100 block of Osprey Lane, deputies said. The contractor estimated damages at $1,500.
*An air conditioner was stolen between July 7 and Thursday from a rental home in the 200 block of Sami Street, deputies said. The owner, Richard Scott Pender of Pikeville, said the unit was worth $1,600.
*A utility trailer was stolen between Monday and Thursday from Castle Manufactured Homes at 4664 U.S. 117 North, deputies said. The trailer was valued at $1,200.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A camera cell phone and a purse were stolen before dawn today after a car window was broken in the 1200 block of North James Street, police said. The owner, Shirley Kornegay of Goldsboro, estimated the value of the stolen property at $113. No damage estimate was listed.
*About $20 in coins were stolen between Wednesday and Thursday after a window was smashed at Hood Equipment Co. at 1207 N. George St., police said. Damage was set at $100.
