The Goldsboro City Council approved an increase in fees for planning department services at its meeting Monday night.
The new fees are effective immediately.
Council members approved the recommendation of the planning staff and city manager, who said the costs associated with providing services had outgrown the revenue collected from fees. Increases in salaries, printing, advertising and postage warrants the increase, council members were told.
Fees for such services as rezoning and site-plan approval were first instituted in 1975 and have been adjusted several times since.
Some services have been provided for free and city officials determined that there should be fees associated with them.
The council also approved fees for violations of the city Code of Ordinances. Previously, there were no financial penalties for violations.
And council members agreed to institute a $100 fee for final subdivision plats when larger subdivisions are created in phases.
